My Story…
I have the unique opportunity to work with members of the Mass General Emergency Department. On any given day, the Emergency Department (ED) team is trained to handle the most acute medical emergencies. As you might recall, they were among the first responders to care for the victims of the 2013 Marathon Bombing. However, over the past 15 months, their bravery, strength, and resiliency were truly tested. The MGH Emergency Department treated a disproportionate amount of severe COVID-19 cases, outpacing other hospitals in the region. I am grateful for Mass General’s steady leadership of the pandemic responses, at the community, state, and national levels. The MGH Emergency Department remains the “front line” of the front line. Their pandemic experience was grueling and relentless, but providers exhibit grace and compassion each day - working and living in the unknown.
In the letter that established the MGH, John Collins Warren wrote, "When in distress, every man becomes our neighbor." I will never know the stress an uncertainty my Emergency Medicine colleagues faced over the past year, but I know that I want to support them as they embody this message. Please consider joining me in my goal to help fund the ED team's research efforts to improve wait times and effective communication for all patients.
