My Story…
I am very proud to be running this year's Falmouth Road Race as part of Team Run Like a Girl Scout and am excited to raise funds for an organization I believe is so impactful for so many. I am lucky enough to have participated in Girl Scouts when I was younger and now I am thrilled to give back as a volunteer Daisy and Brownie troop leader in my town of Medway, Massachusetts. My daughter Charlotte is now involved as well, and all the girls in my troop and the many thousands of other troops across the country are learning how to lead, how to give back, how to protect the Earth, and how to be civically and socially engaged in the world around them. As a career educator, I can say that Girl Scouts is an organization that truly promotes lifelong learning while providing immensely valuable pathways for girls to become well-rounded, unique, and confident humans.
Please consider donating to this worthwhile cause. I would like to thank my many individual donors who have already contributed. I would also like to offer my sincere thanks for the support of local businesses such as Whole Foods of Bellingham, Massachusetts, The Muffin House Cafe of Medway, Willow Salon and Day Spa of Millis, and Star Realty who have generously supported my fundraising efforts.
Description
Building strength and confidence in girls is the cornerstone of Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts’ (GSEMA) mission. Girl Scouts allows girls the opportunity to take risks in a safe and supportive environment, challenging them to try new things and build their confidence. Armed with this assurance, girls go on to do great things: leading peers and others, innovating and forging new paths, and thinking outside the box to benefit their families, communities, and beyond. GSEMA membership is 41,000 strong, with girls and adults in 178 communities in eastern Massachusetts.
Girls gain valuable skills in the four pillars of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience: Life Skills, STEM, Entrepreneurship, and the Outdoors. The Girl Scout programming is a collection of engaging, challenging, and fun age-appropriate activities including earning badges, selling cookies, exploring science and the outdoors, and implementing community service projects. The Girl Scout Leadership Experience is a collection of engaging, challenging, and fun age-appropriate activities including earning badges, selling cookies, exploring science and the outdoors, and implementing community service projects.
For over 100 years, Girl Scouts has delivered diverse leadership programming to develop the next generation of strong female leaders with self-confidence and positive values who seek out challenges, maintain healthy relationships, and are committed to improving their communities and beyond. There are currently over 50 million Girl Scout alums; 60% of female members of the 117th Congress are alums, virtually every female astronaut who has ever flown in space is a Girl Scout alum, and every female secretary of state in U.S. history is a former Girl Scout- Madeleine Albright, Condoleezza Rice, and Hillary Clinton.
