About Liv

Nine year old Liv was diagnosed this year on January 10th with the rare, aggressive childhood cancer known as Neuroblastoma. At diagnosis, we were told that her disease had metastasized to Stage 4. This took the family and Liv, an otherwise healthy, vivacious, and beautiful fourth grader at Wampautauck Elementary school in Scituate Mass, by shock. Olivia has already shown an incredible amount of bravery and grace in the face of a disease that has turned her life upside-down. She has finished 5 rounds of chemo and multiple surgeries. Liv has been in the hospital since June 2, when she began the process of receiving one of two stem cell transplants. This is probably the most difficult part of a grueling 18-month treatment plan. 
At the end of induction we learned through a number of scans that Olivia has made significant improvements. The primary tumor has been removed and there has been notable decreases in the amount of cancer in her bones, and her bone marrow is now negative for metastatic disease. Her MIBG Curie Score went from a 26 at diagnosis to a 5. MIBG Curie Score is a highly sensitive marker for the detection of metastatic neuroblastoma. In more simpler terms, while a notable decrease, we still have significant disease to eradicate from many parts of her body. We expect her home sometime next week. She will have a month to recover before she starts the second transplant.
