My Story…
Family and Friends,
On August 15th, Kristina and I will be running the Falmouth Road Race on behalf of The Ryan Richards Foundation in memory of my best friend from Tufts, Ryan. Ryan and Diana, Kristina's best friend, introduced us in Falmouth in 2013. Fast forward 8 years...and we're now expecting our second child, a son, due in November! Needless to say, Ryan (and Falmouth) have a very special place in our hearts.
The Falmouth Road Race was also a special event for Ryan and a 7 mile race that he never missed. Ryan was sidelined in 2015 with the diagnosis of NUT Carcinoma, an aggressive rare cancer that is diagnosed in less than 50 people per year. Ryan fought courageously, but unfortunately passed away in October of 2015, two months after his daughter Nora was born.
You can read more about the The Ryan Richards Foundation below, but your tax deductable donation will go directly to NUT Carcinoma research and clinical trials at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. In addition to annual scholarships and supporting families battling cancer, The Foundation was able to endow a Fund in Ryan's name at Dana-Farber earlier this year, to support the doctor's and clinical trials that Ryan was fortunate to participate in. Your support would continue this invaluable work. Every dollar counts!
We appreciate your support!
Kristina & Cris (Lucy, MiLLeR and baby BOY too!)
WE ARE RUNNING FOR RHINO!!
On Sunday August 15, 2021, for the fourth year The Ryan Richards Foundation (RRF) has secured numbers for the Falmouth Road Race to run to raise money for the RRF!! We will be running seven miles from Woods Hole to Falmouth Heights to run out cancer.
The Ryan Richards Foundation (RRF) was created to honor Ryan Richards, who died at age 40 from NUT Midline Carcinoma in October, 2015. As Ryan put it, “I ran every road race as fast as I could, because if I paced myself, I wouldn’t be able to make up the time later in the race." With no surprise, he lived his life the same way. In an effort to harness his positive energy and to keep his memory alive, we created the RRF.
What we learned with Ryan’s situation is that until you go through something in life, it’s hard to understand it. Unfortunately, we now understand how difficult it is to see someone you love suffering with a life-threatening illness, both physically and emotionally. We experienced the desperate need for medical advancements and the lack of mental health resources. The Foundation’s goal is to make a difference. The Ryan Richards Foundation Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization formed by Ryan’s wife, family, and friends in an effort to give back to the community he loved.
HELP FAMILIES
First and foremost, we want to help families suffering with cancer. Our donations represent a small tap on the shoulder to let them know that we understand what they’re going through and that they are not alone. To date, we have helped numerous families affected by cancer.
SUPPORT THE FUTURE
The foundation has endowed two annual scholarships in Ryan’s memory to local Falmouth High School seniors attending a four year college. Ryan himself received a scholarship to Tufts University and we feel this is a great way honor his work ethic. To apply for a scholarship, please visit the guidance office at Falmouth High School.
SUPPORT RESEARCH
On a larger scale, the Ryan Richards Foundation is helping fund medical advancements with a recent donation of $35,000 to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, specifically for NUT Midline Carcinoma clinical trials and Pediatric Brain Cancer research. These funds help finance targeted therapy methods for these cancers. If you would like to help us with this cause, please email: ryanrichardsfoundation@gmail.com
