My Story…
Hello Family and Friends,
At the end of August I was given a last minute bib to run in the Falmouth Road Race as part of the Autism Team for the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation. I was excited and honored to run virtually for such an amazing cause. As many of you know I have had the privilege of working as a clinical care technician (and now as a nurse) with many children on the autism spectrum at Tufts Children's Hospital.
Autism can be a complex field, however through research many educators and healthcare workers are able to better our skills and make a difference when working with these children. The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism will help to provide us with more ways of teaching and learning about Autism and help us to deliver the best care possible to our students and patients.
I would be honored if you could help me reach my goal and to contribute to my fundraiser. This is such an amazing cause and the children that I have met throughout the years have left a lasting impression that I hold very close to my heart. Thank you again for all your help :)
Description
Former NFL Quarterback, Doug Flutie, and his wife Laurie started the Doug Flutie, Jr. Flutie Foundation for Autism in 1998 after their son, Dougie, was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. Their personal experience of raising a son on the autism spectrum inspired them to help others on an equally long and challenging journey. Over its 20-year history, the Flutie Foundation has distributed over $14 million to schools and organizations that provide clinical therapies, respite services, recreational programs, social skills training, job supports and more for people affected by autism.
The Flutie Foundation also provides education technology tools, adaptive camp scholarships, safety equipment, and direct family support through its special programs. The Flutie Foundation’s newest initiative, Flutie Spectrum Enterprises, will help create businesses to employ adults with autism.
