Current Event Status
We are excited to announce that this year's GMS Queen City Marathon will include both a virtual and an in-person option.
Registration for the in-person options will begin on July 1.
********************
Please watch your emails and our social media for ongoing updates.
********************
Runners registered for the virtual GMS Queen City Marathon will be given the first opportunity to transfer to any live, in-person event prior to that registration opening to the general public.
********************
- Anyone registered for a virtual event is welcome to stay in the virtual event when live, in-person races return.
- Any live, in-person event will meet all requirements mandated under public health orders from the Government of Saskatchewan.
- Participant numbers and race distances for live, in-person event may be limited to ensure safe operations.
- Our volunteer team is working tirelessly on our safe return to racing plan and is optimistic that we will be approved to produce a live, in-person event this year.
Mask Policies
- Masks will be required by everyone in all indoor spaces, including tents outside.
- Masks will be required by everyone in the start/finish area.
- Volunteers will be required to wear masks while volunteering indoors or outside, whenever they are near other people. If volunteers are doing a solitary job outdoors, or alone outdoors and moving from location to location they will not be required to mask. Volunteers must have a mask available in case their situation changes.
- Runners will not be required to mask on course. We recommend runners keep their mask with them and consider wearing it if they cannot maintain distancing while at water stations or at on-course toilets.
- Masks may be removed while eating or drinking. Distancing should be maintained where possible.
General Policies
- If you feel sick the race weekend, do not come to the race site. We are happy to transfer your registration to the virtual event, even after in-person race weekend. Virtual races can be completed any time in September. Our volunteers have the right to refuse any participant showing signs of illness access to the event site.
- Masks are required to be worn in all start and finish areas on site, and until you have crossed the start line. Masks do not need to be worn on course while running or walking, but should be kept on hand for when distancing cannot be maintained, and must be put back on before you exit the finish chute. Masks may be removed when actively eating or drinking.
- We ask you to maintain distance from other runners and walkers when on course if possible. This includes both fellow participants as well as bystanders on pathways.
Package Pickup/Race Expo
- Package pickup for in-person races will be Friday, Sept 10 from noon to 7pm and Saturday, Sept 11 from 8am to 5pm.
- Virtual package pickup will be Wednesday, Sept 15 from 4pm to 7pm with location TBD. Virtual packages will also be mailed starting the week of Sept 13.
- There will be no race expo this year.
Bag Drop
- There will be no bag drop race weekend this year.
Parking and Bike Valet
- No changes to parking or bike valet for this year.
- Bike valet will be available both Saturday and Sunday.
Start Line
- Masks will be required by all volunteers and participants in start line area.
- We will be doing a "modified pulse start" with small groups of runners and walkers leaving every few seconds. We will be using this format to encourage safe physical distancing both at the start line as well as on course.
Finish Line
- Masks will be required by all volunteers and participants in finish line area. Masks will be provided if you were unable to hold onto your mask during the race.
- Medals will be available in finish line area for pick up. They will not be hung on participants by volunteers.
- Participants are encouraged to move quickly through the finish line area to allow for physical distancing.
- Post race food and water will be packaged and ready for pickup as you exit the finish line area.
- Race medical team will be available in finish line area.
Washrooms/Porta-Potties
- Will be available both on race site as well as on course.
- Hand sanitizer and/or hand washing stations will be available.
Refreshment Stations
- Refreshment stations will be provided for all races.
- Water and "energy drink" will be provided for races over 10K.
- We encourage runners and walkers to carry their own fluids if they are concerned about accessing fluids at refreshment stations on course.
- Runners and walkers are encouraged to maintain physical distancing at refreshment stations.
Relay Exchanges
- Runners and walkers are encouraged to maintain physical distancing at relay stations. Masks will be required while waiting in relay exchange locations.
Courses
- Courses are different than those run in 2019.
- 5K, 10K and 21.1K course are single loop courses. 42.2K is a double loop course.
- 42.2K course will be certified with Athletics Canada.
- Course maps will be published closer to race weekend.
Spectators
- Spectators will be discouraged at the start/finish area. Spectators on site will be required to wear masks.
- Spectators on course are encouraged to maintain physical distancing.
Awards/Pace Team
- All award programs are being paused this year.
- Pace team is being paused for this year.
We will continue to monitor the covid situation in Regina throughout the summer and reserve the right to modify any or all of the above information leading into race weekend.
How To Participate
You can run or walk to complete your distance any time between September 1 - 30, 2021.
Upload your time on the Race Roster Virtual Results Page. Instructions will be emailed prior to event to assist you in uploading your time. We encourage you to track your run using the RunKeeper app, where your results will automatically sync with your Race Roster account and upload right onto the Virtual Results Leaderboard.
Where To Run or Walk
Wherever you are! The simplicity of participating in a virtual event is you can start right outside your front door. Be sure to follow all guidelines outlined by your local government regarding physical distancing and activity to ensure you are keeping yourself and your community safe.
Virtual Event Safety Tips
- Respect all local government guidelines regarding Covid-19.
- Complete event solo (or with members of your family or those in your "Covid bubble").
- Respect other runners and walkers. Keep your space, maintain six feet of distance, pass with care.
- Avoid high traffic pedestrian and vehicle areas. Run or walk close to home during a quieter time of day whenever possible.
- Wear appropriate clothing. Be visible and dress for the weather.
- Bring water and/or nutrition if you are planning a longer route. There are no water stations in a virtual event.
- Carry a cell phone with you and tell someone the route you will follow in case of an emergency.
- You may complete your event using a treadmill if that is an option available to you and that you would prefer.

Event Withdrawal Policy
Entries may not be transferred, given or sold to a third party or deferred to a future date. All fees are non-refundable.
In 2020 we suspended our No Refund Policy and offered partial refunds on all our events. While some runners opted for a partial refund, many of you stuck with us and participated in our first virtual event or donated a portion on your registrations fees to one of our charity partners. We thank all of you for your past participation and support over the past year.
To ensure Run Regina and the GMS Queen City Marathon are in a position to offer events in the coming years we will not be offering refunds or deferrals for any reason this year. Those registering for the virtual options will have the entire month of September to complete their run or walk. If we are able to transition to a live, in-person event we will only do so if we feel fully confident the event will go forward.
Those racing under a false identity are not covered by event insurance and are not eligible for an official race time. In addition, they can be disqualified and barred from entering future Run Regina events.
Relay Teams
Important: Relay teams must have a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 people per team. Teams without 3 people will be disqualified.
- To sign up a relay team, each person on the team must select "42.2K Team Relay"under event options.
- You can register everyone on your team at once, or each team member can register individually.
- To register multiple team members at once, click "Add Another Team Member" after filling out each person's info.
- Please make sure to tell us the name of the relay team you are competing with when you register.
- The cost for each relay team member is per member.
Thanks for your cooperation!
