My Story…
For my entire life I lived with Ulcerative Colitis and thought that I was living a 'normal' life. Boy, was I wrong! A few years ago I had Ileoanal anastomosis surgery (J-pouch surgery) at Mount Sinai Hospital and slowly, my journey to good health began.
Since my surgery and recovery, I have taken up running and have spent this winter training for a Full Marathon (42.2k). My first Half (21.1k) was the Mississauga Marathon and at the very last minute I had the great good fortune to join team Guts to Run, a running group that is raising awareness and funds for Crohn's and Colitis Canada.
Thanks to COVID, charitable donations are down and all live races have been cancelled. I was going to register for the 2021 Mississauga Virtual Full Marathon but when I went to do my registration, I ran across (pun intended) the 80k Warrior Challenge and thought, what the heck, I'll do that instead! In May I will be doing a Full, Half, 10k, 5k and 2k race. Your support and donations to Guts to Run will be the fuel that keeps me going!
I am thankful to be living in a healthy body and to be able to use it to support other UC and Crohn's sufferers. My hope is that some day they too may know what living in a healthy body feels like. We are Warriors!
