My Story…
Six months ago I was suffering from the disease of addiction to marijuana. I was using regularly for the previous 4 years to cope with the pain and trauma of a past riddled with abuse, rejection, and all kinds of emotional suffering. I justified it as "medication" for my mental illnesses. I was killing myself slowly with my addiction, which was making me insane. My doctor finally told me that the daily marijuana use was making mental health WORSE and referred me to an addictions counselor. She helped me to see myself as a person with the disease of addiction. I joined my local Narcotics Anonymous chapter here in Barrie, Ontario, which has saved my life. The opposite of addiction is community and connection. I have found this through NA and am SO grateful! Today I am clean, have a new career as an elementary teacher and running has been a huge part of my recovery! I'm raising money for YU which helps youth struggling with homelessness and addiction. Please give generously!
