THE GREATER BOYNTON BEACH FOUNDATION
Race: Barrier Free 5K

The Greater Boynton Beach Foundation was established in 2010 with the goal of supporting recreation, education and culture in our area. Our signature project and one that is very close to our hearts is the Congress Avenue Barrier-Free Park. This is a playground and park for children and adults of all abilities to come together to play and exercise. There are swings that help children that cannot control their bodies, there are ramps to all of the equipment, there is a huge wheelchair-friendly exercise circuit, accessible bathrooms, and visual and tactile cues everywhere throughout the park. This is a space where people of all abilities can come together no matter their age, their ability to walk, or their ability to climb.  Over the years there have been many additions to the park and playground to increase its accessibility for all.

The funds for these projects have been raised through our annual Barrier-Free 5K Run, Walk & Roll. This race has given runners an opportunity to run through the beautiful community of Hunter’s Run and get to know our playground and park. Like many of the nonprofits out there, the Greater Boynton Foundation has suffered through the Covid era.

Our next race is scheduled for February as usual, but it will have to be virtual. We are hoping that people will want to participate in our virtual race, but realistically, we need support from the community in other ways. Thanks in advance to the running community for supporting us! We hope to have a great race for you in 2022!
