By entering you accept that Sandbag Racing is an arduous activity and accept the risks of participation. It is likely that you may suffer some form of muscular/skeletal injury if you turn up unprepared or move at a pace beyond your abilities.
British Camp Sandbag Race is an 8Km race up a hill through woodland to a Bronze Age hill fort on the border of Worcestershire and Herefordshire. The route is out and back, so all up hill out and all downhill back in.
Where - The start location, carparking and registration will all be located within Eastnor Deer Park, see event location for specifics. On arrival lookout for the Sandbag Racing Banners and follow them to the car park where you will be marshalled into a car parking spot. Once on site please social distance, wear a mask and generally act with consideration of the COVID19 environment we find ourselves in.
The location is a remote country park, so amenities are limited, and the nearest shop is a 15min drive away.
There are no refreshments provided during the route, but lots of encouragement/banter. Route will be marked and marshalled.
Entry Notes:
Individual entry is very simple just follow the registration process
Pairs entry will require you to set up a team, you then select an entry option for the second member of your pair at this stage, select the pairs option for your desired weight category. At checkout the second member entry price is removed so you only pay the displayed price for a pairs entry.
The race roster platform charges a small fee.
Kit to bring:
As part of your entry fee you get a Sandbag Racing neck gaiter, snood thing, this we recommend you wear as it will keep the sweat out of your eyes and make you look essence.
Assume you are spending the day in the wild, so bring adequate water, food and warm, waterpoof kit, do bring a small first aid kit for sprains etc.
During the race a sturdy pair of trail shoes or boots are essential.
A synthetic top is also a good idea as cotton tops will stretch and generally be a pain in the neck.
You get to keep the Sandbag you race with, from us to you, so please be prepared to take it home with you.

Overview
Sandbag Racing is an event that sees athletes compete as an individual or as a pair to carry a sandbag around a prescribed route across country over undulating terrain. It is a test of the soul, the sandbag is uncomfortable, awkward and hard to carry, it is a test of will power and heart.
Sandbag Racing is also designed to generate awareness of mental health, think of the Sandbag as a visualisation of mental health:
- Its heavy
- Its awkward to carry
- Its easier to carry when shared
- Acknowledgement of the load and active engagement with it is important
- The more we training our mental health and prepare our minds the better we can cope with negative aspects of mental health
Proceeds from these events are split across our charity partners, by buying a ticket you are supporting the battle to combat veteran's mental health.
Our Charity partners are PTSD Resolution and ALL CALL SIGNs both great charities who provide invaluable services to the veteran community, you can donate directly when you register for an event and we encourage you to fundraise for one or both of these charities as well.
Sandbag Racing is also intended to be a sport, any good sport has clear rules that define the competition boundaries. Sandbag Racing rules are below, but the core spirit of Sandbag Racing is that the Sandbag is a precious item that should be respected, not dropped and definitely not left on the course.
Rules:
- No dragging the Sandbag
- Only a single person may carry the sandbag at any one time, pairs can't share the load
- Sandbag can be put on the ground, in a controlled manner, to rest
- Sandbag must be treated like your baby, don’t drop it from height
- Athletes must get the sandbag to the finish line, no matter the time taken
- Pairs must cross the start and finish lines together, failure to do so will incur a time penalty of 5 minutes.
Sandbag Racing is hard, should you become injured during the event then we expect you to lay the Sandbag down and inform a marshal as to the location. If you are perfectly fine and just tired then we expect you to get the Sandbag back to the finish line.
When registering you will be asked to agree to a waiver that ensures you are aware of the arduous nature of Sandbag Racing and take full responsibility for your participation.
Use #sandbagracing to show your support to this cause and growing sport.
