2021 New Brunswick Weightlifting Championships - On-Line Competition
This event due to Covid19 Protocol Restrictions has been moved to an On-Line Event. We will open this event to any Provincially registered athlete across Canada!
The NBWA is honored to provide this opportunity for athletes, and coaches, to participate in the 2021 NB On-line Weightlifting Championships. Many athletes across the country have found ways to continue their training, but it is not deemed safe (at the time of this organizing) for us to be in one room, with athletes sharing barbells. That doesn’t diminish the desire to compete and a yearning for normalcy. We have proposed that we all meet on-line, from the safety of our homes/gyms/wherever we can be safe and LIFT.
On-Line Considerations:
- The competition will be run on the Zoom application and Weigh-ins will be completed on MS Teams application
- Links will be sent to session competitors
- It is highly recommended that lifters connect to Zoom and MS Teams utilizing a laptop & camera using a wired connection directly to your router to utilize your internet data plan
- In some cases using a smart phone device connected to a wireless cellular network (wifi) might incur an extra long distance phone charge

- The athlete at his/her own discretion decides if the lift is complete according to the rules
- Then the athlete lowers the barbell in front of the body releasing his/her grip on the barbell only after it has passed the level of the shoulders
- Although no official down signal is given, the officials can still fail a lift at their discretion if they determine that the athlete was not motionless or in the correct position prior to lowering the barbell
The Clean and Jerk Difference

- Although no official down signal is given, the officials can still fail a lift at their discretion if they determine that the athlete was not motionless or in the correct position prior to lowering the barbell
9.2 Weigh-in
- Weigh-in will be completed over a MS Teams call
- Participants will be in the call’s “waiting room” and only the athlete that is currently being weighed-in will be admitted to the call
- Athletes must wear only their singlet during weigh-in and no other articles of clothing (no socks, no watch or neckless)
- There will be a 0.3kg allowance for the singlet.
- Athletes will be expected show a picture ID as proof of identity during the call
- Prior to stepping on the scale, the athlete will be asked to place (one) 20kg plate on the scale to determine the scales accuracy

- Weigh-ins will start two hours before the start of the competition and will last for one hour
- Athletes will be called according to the order on the start list
- If an athlete misses the weigh-in period they will be withdrawn from the competition and will be unable to compete
- Athletes are requested to log in to the call a minimum of 15 minutes before the start of weigh-ins
9.3 Loading and Timing
- One minute will be allocated to each athlete between the calling of the athlete and the beginning of the attempt
- Athletes are expected to have their next weight loaded before they are called
- Once an athlete has been declared and the clock has started, no timing allowance will be provided for weight changes
- In case of loading error changes to the weight of the bar are allowed once an athlete has been declared, however there will be no time allotted for the athlete to load the bar to the new weight
9.4 EQUIPMENT REQUIRMENTS
- Athletes are not required to lift with IWF approved equipment, although it is preferred
- However, the equipment must be within the standard tolerances for a 15kg or 20kg revolving barbell
- It is recommended that Weights and change plates used be in kilograms and have the proper coloring
- Exception: If wanting to use black plates marked in lbs, the plate should be marked around the outside of the plate using the appropriate colored duck tape so that Technical Officials can validate the weigh being loaded on the bar. lbs will be converted to Kilos and rounded down to the nearest 1kg
- It is preferred that 2.5kg locking collars are used, however spring clips or plastic collars can be used but they will not count towards the weight total on the bar
- Plate arrangement on the barbell must follow typical competition style; plates must be ordered from largest to smallest (from inside out) and there must be only one change plate (0.5kg-2kg) per side.
- Change plates must be outside the collars, even if spring collars or plastic collars are used.
- Multiple plates of the same colour are not to be used unless it is for the 25kg plates.
- Athlete must turn the loaded barbell 45° to the camera so the officials can verify the weight on the bar, when weight is in question the coach should describe the loaded weight for the officials
- If an athlete does not have access to equipment that satisfies these requirements, please contact the competition director by email a minimum of one week prior to the start of the competition. (gadoucette@bellaliant.net)
- Athletes or their club must provide a good quality camera (preferably HD) to connect to Zoom
- The camera shall be located directly in front of the athlete approximately four meters from the front of the platform and approximately one meter off the ground
- The camera must be able to see the entire athlete and barbell in the finishing position
- If the athlete leaves the camera view during the lift, it will be declared a no lift
- It is recommended that a LAN wired connection is used to connect to the Zoom, as low bandwidth wireless networks can cause synchronization issues
- If the camera connection is lost, no additional allowance of time will be provided for the athlete to fix the issue
- If an athlete misses an attempt due to connection issues, the athlete will be timed out and a make up lift will not be provided
