Join Campus Recreation for our first ever relay marathon on the trail!
So, what is a marathon relay exactly? Like a marathon, a marathon relay is an event that covers 26.2 miles of distance. But instead of you running all of those miles by yourself, your team completes the challenge together. The entire race will be held on the main rail bed trail, and the final leg will also run a section around the South Campus Recreation Center. Each relay team will consist of four-five people, all being at least 8 years of age on race day. For teams of five, each team member will complete one leg of the race (see below); for teams of four, one member will complete two legs. All team members will receive a technical running shirt (sizes guaranteed if registered by 4/8). This event is limited to 10 teams. Training plans are available by clicking here.
On Race Day, all team members must check-in at Race Central (SCRC main parking lot) between 9:00-9:30 a.m. and all racers must be stationed at Trail Mile Marker 0 by 10:00 a.m. Legs will be released in 10 minute increments (Leg 1 at 10:00, Leg 2 at 10:10, Leg 3 at 10:20, Leg 4 at 10:30, Leg 5 at 10:40); this will speed up the overall event time. If a team member is running more than one leg, the timers will notify them of their second leg start time.
LEGS:
Team Member 1 will complete a 5K (3.1 miles) - Chucky Mullins gate to mile marker 1.5 and back
Team Member 2 will complete a 10K (6.2 miles) - Chucky Mullins gate to the south end of the trail and back
Team Member 3 will complete a 5K (3.1 miles) - Chucky Mullins gate to mile marker 1.5 and back
Team Member 4 will complete a 10K (6.2 miles) - Chucky Mullins gate to the south end of the trail and back
Team Member 5 will complete a 12K (7.5 miles) - Chucky Mullins gate to the south end of the trail and back, and a section around the South Campus Rec Center field.
REGISTRATION NOTES:
Team captains should register first and create a team name and a team code, then share this code with the other team members so they can register. Before registration, teams should discuss which leg(s) (see above) they will complete, and then select the correct leg during registration.
