By popular demand, the 2021 scramble will be a timed event. What is the same, is the course will be determined by snow cover closer to the date of the race but you can plan on at least a similar route.
This is a winter sports awareness event. It's about being outside and playing in the snow for your health and wellness. It's snow and sweat all rolled into a super fun fundraiser.
Grab your ski gear that gets you uphill (and down) and join us for a sunrise scramble with a staggered and COVID safe start of snow enthusiasts heading up the slopes of Canaan Valley Resort State Park.
RACE CATEGORIES:
We have expanded our kid's categories this year and added a category for scale-less skate skis.
SKIN and SCALES categories with male and female divisions in each.
Kids:
- 11 and under
- 12 - 14
- 15 - 17
Adults:
- 18 - 34
- 35 - 54
- 55 +
Scale-less Skate is all ages in with an overall male and female prize.

Canaan Valley State Park Foundation hopes to achieve three goals with the Sunrise Scramble that align with our overall mission.
- Fundraising - we are currently raising funds for a large pavilion on the park as well as smaller projects that enhance the park for all guests such as bike washing stations, trail kiosks, trail shelters, and picnic areas with grills.
- Outdoor Recreation - bring awareness to Canaan Valley Ski Resort to develop an uphill ski policy for times when the backcountry does not allow for this type of winter sport due to lack of snow.
- Community Events – enough said.

SCALE-LESS Skate Ski Race Closed
This category is for a classic skate and scale-less ski. Does not matter if it is waxable or not. If it's itty bitty and super skinny and doesn't have a scale on the end and you do not need a set of skins to get up the mountain, then this is your category.
