Help Ted raise money

For participating in Canada Army Run:Virtual 2021/Course de l’Armée du Canada : Virtuelle 2021

My Story…

I am excited to complete my first ever 10 k Army Run this year! I will be running it on September 11, this year the twentieth anniversary of the terrorist attacks that took place on that fateful day.

In years gone by, I used to hear or watch the Army Run when it took place in person in Ottawa. Although this year's event is different due to COVID-19, the cause is no less important.

My personal story with the Canadian Army (CA) began in 2017. Joining the Reserves had been a long-standing goal of mine, and I was delighted to be realizing it.

2017 was one of the toughest years of my life. I had just gotten through the first year of challenging academic program, and fallen short of my own expectations. I had also lost a close family member quite suddenly. I had lost some momentum and direction until the call came down that I was in.

My training and service in the years from 2017-2019 kept me focused and taught me valuable lessons that I could apply not just in uniform, but in civilian life. It also showed me the opportunities that the CA had given and could give to people who had faced adversities far greater than mine.

These days, the CA is often discussed in the negative. It is important that the negatives are not ignored. There are many things that the institution can and should change. However, it is also important to recognize that the CA is also a force for good. It has played and continues to play an integral role in Canadian society and abroad. As we watch events unfolding in Afghanistan and elsewhere, and see the CA's increased domestic work, support for our frontline troops and veterans is more important than ever.

The CA has been an important part of my life and the lives of many others. My civilian work has limited my involvement over the last couple of years, but I want to keep giving however I can to those serving at the forefront.

I hope you'll give too. Thank you for your support.

While we are unable to be physically together this year, we are thrilled that the Army Run family will be able to join hands virtually, and run, walk, or roll in support of the Canadian Armed Forces community.

The aviators, sailors, and soldiers of our Canadian Armed Forces wear the maple leaf as a symbol of pride and patriotism on their uniforms as they represent and protect our nation at home and abroad. Their families are the strength behind the uniform as they experience frequent moves, lengthy absences, and the risks of family members serving in physically and mentally demanding and dangerous situations.

Support Our Troops, the official charitable cause of the Canadian Armed Forces, is the beneficiary of the funds raised by Canada Army Run. It was established to meet the unique needs and challenges faced by members of the Canadian Armed Forces community as a result of their military service.

Support Our Troops champions two main objectives, to care of members with physical and/or mental health illness or injury and promoting resiliency in families.

 Your efforts will:

  • support ill and/or injured members in their rehabilitation and recovery through the transformative power of sport, recreation, and creative pursuits with the Soldier On program
  • empower youth to pursue their academic dreams
  • maintain the dignity, independence, and well-being of families during financial hardship
  • send children of military families to camp bringing them a renewed energy and a support network

The funds you raise will ensure that the women and men of the Canadian Armed Forces have access to the financial resources they need when they need them the most. Thank you for being there for our brave and dedicated Canadian Armed Forces women and men who will always be there for us.

Last year, the fundraising efforts of Canada Army Run participants contributed to the positive impact made in the lives of Canadian Armed Forces members and their families.

  • soutenir la réadaptation et le rétablissement des membres des FAC ayant une maladie et/ou une blessure physique ou mentale grâce au pouvoir transformateur du sport, des loisirs et des activités créatives offertes par Sans limites;
  • habiliter les jeunes à concrétiser leur rêve de poursuivre des études;
  • maintenir la dignité, l’autonomie et le bien-être des familles lors de difficultés financières;
