In 2003, 11-year-old Edgemont student Taylor Matthews was diagnosed with bone cancer. Taylor wanted something good to come from her battle against cancer, so she created Tay-Bandz to raise public awareness about childhood cancer and fund pediatric cancer research. The fight against cancer goes on. For many years our community has gathered to support Relay for Tay, an event honoring Taylor. As a tribute to Taylor and to extend the focus of the Relay event, we have created “Colors Against Cancer,” for which we are glad to have continued community support.
“Colors Against Cancer” is a 5K color run that will virtually take place from Sunday, May 16th to Sunday, May 30. Participants will walk/run through their neighborhoods, and record their results virtually. In previous years, during the run, participants were showered with non-toxic color powders, creating a beautiful rainbow of color. Since we are unable to have everyone together, we will be sharing the recipe on how to make the powdered colors so you can still have the experience! Join your community or create your own team to support the fight against childhood cancer, celebrate childhood cancer survivors, and raise funds for childhood cancer research. Participants can run, jog or walk! All proceeds raised will be donated to the Taylor Matthews Foundation!
