Help Jennifer raise money

From May 15 - June 15, I am committing to riding 100 kms per week and a total of 400 kms to raise funds in support of Lighthouse for Grieving Children & Families. 

Update - June 12: 405 kms!! Reached my distance goal! 

Here's why...

Everyone experiences grief differently and this is especially true for children and teenagers. The loss of a loved one - a mom or dad, sister or brother - can be a life-altering experiencing leaving family members devastated, feeling isolated and alone.

1 in 14 children will experience the death of a parent or sibling. According to a study that tracked respondents for 7 years, bereaved youth are more likely to:

- Experience depressive thoughts, possess diminished self-esteem 

- Consume drugs and alcohol

- Engage in violence

- Be suspended or expelled, repeat a grade

- Seek out mental health counseling and drug rehabilitation

Lighthouse is a safe place where grieving children, youth and their families support each other though their grieving children journey. Any child or teen, ages 3-19, who has experienced the death of an immediate family member or very close friend can join a group. Parents and guardians are also welcome to attend peer support groups.

Lighthouse believes that no child should grieve alone.  

As someone who lost my dad at a young age, I understand some of the impacts thr death of a parent can have on a child, teen and their family members - the grief, the isolation and feeling different from your peers. I truly see the incredible value that Lighthouse provides by offering a safe place where kids can find a sense of belonging and connect with others who are going through something similar.
