Registration for the 21st annual Bridge the Gap to Health race is now open! Come enjoy the beautiful scenic route down Maine Street where many locally owned businesses are located, along with a view that takes you along the Mississippi River. This year’s event features two options: (1) an in-person 5K run/walk, 10K run, and half marathon run in Quincy IL on Saturday, May 15, 2021 and (2) a virtual 5K run/walk, 10K run, half marathon and kids run event that can be completed anywhere. While this year’s event is different from years past, the Quincy Medical Group’s (QMG) Bridge the Gap Race has brought people from near and far together to support local patients in affording life-saving medications through Quincy Catholic Charities’ MedAssist Program.
To keep everyone safe that’s choosing to run in- person, the race will be limited to 1,800 participants. Waves of 50 people will start every 5 minutes, and you choose your wave time when you pay your registration fee.
Virtual registration includes a t-shirt, medal, and the convenience to complete your walk/run on your own turf anytime between May 13th – 17th.
Don’t wait! The first 100 registrants will be put in a drawing to win a HydroJug, sleeve and straw!!
Please join us in-person or virtually to help Quincy Catholic Charities’ Med Assist Program that supports the need of medication assistance. This year, in addition to raising funds for MedAssist, race organizers are asking participants to bring a canned food item at packet pick-up which will then distributed to local food pantries in our area.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Bridge the Gap offering a hybrid event this year? For the safety of our participants we have decided to offer both in-person and virtual options allowing registrants to choose what they feel comfortable with doing. In-person participants will sign up for a wave when they register allowing us to follow the safety guidelines, with waves of 50 people every 5 minutes.
Why can’t we run across the bridges this year? Due to the major resurface/repair to the Memorial Bridge and the safety of all participants IDOT and MODOT will not allow anyone on the bridge for this year’s race.
Canned Food Drive: This year we are accepting canned food items and non-perishable items to support our local food pantries as we know that food insecurity was heightened last year during the pandemic. Please bring food donations to packet pick-up on Thursday, May 13 from 4 p.m. – 8p.m. or Friday, May 14 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. or donate directly to one of the following pantries beginning May 1 – May 15.
Barry Food Pantry, Horizons Food Pantry, Shepherd’s Food Pantry, or St. Paul’s Food Pantry.
Refund Policy - No refunds will be given.
Can I switch from the physical event to the virtual event? Yes, transfers are allowed through Friday, May 14, 2021. Please contact, Jake Goldsborough jake@fleetfeetstlouis.com to transfer.
Can I switch from the virtual event to the physical event? Yes, IF space is available and the cap has not been met. Please contact, Jake Goldsborough jake@fleetfeetstlouis.com to transfer. A $3 processing fee will be applied to all transfers.
Inclement Weather Policy: The safety of our participants and volunteers is our highest priority. If severe weather is present, we will post an update on the Facebook Page @BridgeTheGapToHealth and at the top of our website www.bridgethegaptohealth.com by 6:00 am the morning of the event at the latest.
COVID-19 Status: Our intention is to be able to hold this event in person. We are working on plans to take all necessary precautions to make this a safe event during the COVID-19 situation based on the latest/greatest guidelines as the event approaches. As we finalize those plans and precautions and have them in place, we will include them in race communications closer to the race date. Participant safety is our number one concern, so if it is deemed unsafe to have an in-person event, the race will be switched to an all-virtual event. Should we have to hold the event virtual only, we will automatically switch all participants to the virtual event and send details on how to obtain your race gear and submit your virtual times. We will contact all participants in the event that it goes virtual with further instructions if needed.
Strollers are welcome, they can be in any wave.
Will there be on-course support? Yes, we will have a course marshal and traffic control on course. EMS will be available throughout the course, and medical team will be at the finish line.
Will there be on course Aid Stations? We highly encourage and recommend participants carry all hydrations and nutritional needs in their running pack. We will only have two water stations throughout the entire 10K/half marathon. Bottled water will be provided in the finish area.
End of race: After you cross the finish please grab your bag of race goodies which will include bottled water, snack and race medal! For those that don’t take the bag you won’t get your race medal, and we are not held responsible.
