My Story…

I started The Starfish Canada with a friend ten years ago for a simple reason: young people need to be heard as we make decisions about Canada's environment.

We started with simple aspirations of connecting university students from diverse backgrounds together. We've now grown to an organization that thrives because of the incredible community of change-makers that shows us exactly what is possible if we lean on young, bright minds.

While young people are certainly the leaders of tomorrow, they're also the leaders of today. The Starfish Canada supports the passion and dedication of young people and shows the nation that we're better off including these voices in the conversation about our natural environment.

A donation to The Starfish Canada is a contribution that genuinely lifts up an underrepresented group and gives them the courage and inspiration to know their voice truly matters.

Because I genuinely believe in the power of young leadership to help solve our big environmental challenges - I’m upping the ante and challenging myself to do more than I’ve ever done!

My $1,000 goal has been achieved! HALF MARATHON UNLOCKED!

If we reach $2,000, I’ll bike from Victoria to Nanaimo (127 km/8.5 hours) in one day!

If we reach $3,000, I’ll do a 5km swim - making it the longest swim I’ve ever done!

For every $1,000 after 3k, I’ll do all of the above AGAIN. In other words, hitting $4,000 = a half marathon AND 8.5 hour bike ride AND a 5km swim.

FAQ that were not frequently asked, they’re just the questions I imagine people asking

Q: Weren’t you injured not that long ago?

A: Why yes. I’ve had a pesky foot injury. Through physio and run coaching, we’ve deduced that I can run at slower paces and that swim/cycling doesn’t impact my foot at all. So the runs won’t be my fastest to date... but they’re doable.

Q: Why not just running?

A: I had a 2020 goal to do a triathlon, and we all know what happened to 2020 goals. This will hopefully kick me into getting back to that dream of mine while doing some good for young environmental leaders. Also, mixing up the activities helps take some of the load off of the foot.

Q: When will you do these?

A: Sometime in 2021, depending on when the goals get hit. If weather is declining, swims might go indoor, although my hope is to do them in lakes.

Q: Time goals?

A: None so far. First attempts will be to finish. After that, depending on how the body is doing, I will probably try to beat the previous time.

Q: This sounds crazy.

A: That’s not a question.
