Since the first Bar Run in 1979, this event has benefited the Support Center for Child Advocates (Child Advocates) and put a spotlight on the Philadelphia Bar Association’s commitment to the health and well-being of children in the Philadelphia region. The nation’s oldest and largest pro bono lawyer program dedicated exclusively to serving children who have experienced abuse and neglect, Child Advocates provides legal assistance and social service advocacy for more than 1,000 vulnerable children and youth in Philadelphia each year.
For more than four decades, Child Advocates staff social workers and lawyers have teamed with their Volunteer Attorneys to ensure that our child clients receive the highest quality representation to address emotional, physical, educational, and behavioral health needs. Children like Jason, Amber, and Mina:
When Jason was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries sustained as a result of abuse by his father, Child Advocates staff and Volunteer Attorneys advocated for his placement in a specialized medical foster home while simultaneously planning for reunification with his mother.
When Amber was born premature with drugs in her system to a mother struggling with addiction, Child Advocates worked to secure a safe foster placement while her mother received treatment. After her mother successfully completed treatment, Amber was returned to her care. Amber is now thriving as a healthy toddler.
At just four months old, Mina experienced severe abuse at the hands of her parents. Child Advocates stepped in to ensure that she received extensive medical care, and that she was discharged to her nurturing aunt where Mina is now happy and safe.
After the success of last year, we feel confident that we are even better suited to execute a virtual run that you can be proud of as a donor, and that the community will once again rally around us for the good of the children served by Child Advocates. We invite you to consider supporting this tradition in both the running and legal communities, and joining us as a sponsor, donor, or runner as we continue to raise funds in support of their important work.
