"tough as DOuG" t-shirts!
PLEASE NOTE: this page is only being used to order additional shirts for the event and nothing else.
The "event date" on this Race Roster page is the deadline to order shirts, not the actual race date.
and here is the explanation of what "tough as DOuG?" is all about...
doug the dog went on an adventure one day
without his owner.
he ran off into the forest,
not knowing how long his adventure would last.
neither did anyone else...
and neither will you for this event.
if you were to take a dog for a run (or walk),
they have no idea how long they’re going for,
but they’re keen for whatever...
whether it’s just around the block,
or
a multi-day jaunt.
dogs like doug are resilient,
stubborn,
and tough as hell.
are you as tough as doug?
we know you’re not
(frig, none of us are),
but maybe you’ll get a shot at being tested.
what are they yammering on about?
we’re talking about a running race format that’s new-to-Canada
(as far as we know)!
only the race director(s) know what distance (not time) the race will end at.
could be 8 kilometres....
could be 42 miles,
or
it could be multiple days,
just like doug’s adventure.
we’re borrowing the idea that started in UK
(have a read here for a wee heads up: https://ultrarunningcommunity.com/reviews/13-report/195-how-long-is-a-piece-of-string),
along with a few bits from a little race in TN :)
COVID stuff....
we’ll be having a limit of 40 runners,
(yes, less than Nova Scotia COVID restrictions as of mid-Feb)
how do I do this stupid run & where do I sign up?
read carefully.
there are no typos.
asking for clarification will cancel your possible race entry.
there are no second chances to apply :-)
to apply…
please send one email
to novascotiatrailrunning@outlook.com
on february 27th, 2021
anytime between 11:03pm and 11:37pm EST
titled “why i think i’m as tough as doug”...
explaining why you think you are as tough as doug :)
of course we need to know your name and how to contact you as well.
the first 10 to apply in the above time frame (with all their i’s dotted and t’s crossed) get first dibs to participate (translation: they don’t go in the draw).
*only 40 people will toe the line on Saturday April 24th at 9:00am AST!
after the start list is filled, an additional 25 will be added to the “weight list”.
the runners selected for the start list will be emailed on/before march 8th, 2021. The start list will not be posted.
the weight list will be posted after the starters have been determined.
selection process…
this will be a “weighted draw” (hence “weight” list).
your name goes in the hat at least once.
for each and every additional “tick” of these items below, your name goes in for the draw (your name could potentially be in the draw 4 times).
writing creativity. did you ‘WOW’ doug with your writing?
have you ever run 50k, or more, in the last 5 years?
do you own a dog? if so, what is their name?
entry fee: $80
this includes a ‘tough as doug?’ super comfy short sleeved shirt (65% polyester/35% cotton -- same style that we’ve been using the last few years -- both unisex and women’s sizing is available), insurance, a very unique race format AND a $30 donation (per registration) to the Animal Rescue Coalitions (ARC).
they helped doug in a big way!
no refunds.
if you can’t make it to the race for any reason, your entry fee will be donated to ARC.
please note: when you accept your spot at the start line, please send an e-transfer to novascotiatrailrunning@outlook.com all of the suckers...i mean...all of the lucky folks that are offered a spot will have 3 days to send in their entry fee. if not, we offer it to the next lucky person ‘in-weighting’ :)
the shirt order will be going in by mid-march, so no changes/additions can be made after that date.
additional shirts can be ordered for $20, so include the payment with your entry fee (e-transfer to novascotiatrailrunning@outlook.com ).
*$6.00 from every additional shirt sale will also be donated to the ARC as well!

again, have a read about the “piece of string fun run” in the UK so you have a good idea of how this format works! :)
