We’re getting back to normal at the Delaware Youth Center — or as normal as things can be. That means the annual River Run is back on … with a few changes to keep our runners, walkers, and volunteers safe!
Here are the details:
- The 5K Run and Walk will be in person in 2021 on the beautiful River Road in Callicoon.
- The 10K Run is off this year, but keep your eyes out for a return in the future.
- The number of runners and walkers will be limited in accordance with NYS COVID-19 safety guidelines, so sign up early to grab your spot!
- We will be following COVID-19 safety requirements, but masks will NOT be required (you are welcome to wear one if you are more comfortable wearing a mask).
- Not sure you’re ready for an in-person race just yet? You can still participate in the Annual Gary A. Winglovitz Virtual Race
All proceeds benefit the Delaware Youth Center.
For the DYC 5K Run and Walk:
- Packet pick up days and locations will be announced
- Want your packet mailed? Please add $5 donation to your registration to cover the cost.
- Walkers will start at 8 a.m. Runners will leave the starting line at 8:30 a.m.
- Times will be based on chip times to ensure social distancing can be followed
- Refreshments care packs provided after the race
- Medals will be mailed
For the Gary A. Winglovitz Virtual race, here's how it works:
- Choose your distance and choose your course
- Run or walk anytime between July 18 and August 1
- Share photos of your virtual run, and tag the Delaware Youth Center on social media
- Support the Delaware Youth Center from anywhere in the world
- Packet pick up days and locations will be announced
- Want your packet mailed? Please add $5 donation to your registration to cover the cost.
- Want to record your time? You'll receive an email about a week before the race with instructions and a link to the Runkeeper app, and a link to the results page to see how you placed. Don't want to upload your time? That's fine too!
We understand that the pandemic has brought never-before-seen hardships to our area.
If your child wants to participate in the River Run but the cost of registration is a burden, we understand. Please contact us directly at 5k@delawareyouthcenter.org to receive a sponsored registration. If you want to sponsor a child's registration, please also contact us.
All proceeds benefit the Delaware Youth Center.
The Gary A. Winglovitz Virtual Race began in 2019, named for one of our own: Gary Winglovitz, a kid who grew up in Cochecton and spent his childhood at the Delaware Youth Center. Gary died in 2014 at 41, and his family and friends have come out in force ever since to run the River Race in his memory.
