Run for Support Dogs 2021

Virtual Events: 50K, Marathon, 1/2 Marathon, 10K, 5K run/walk and Canine 5K Plus Cycling 100K and 1

Run for Support Dogs will be a new race held on May Long Weekend (21-24th). This year it consist of a Virtual 50k, Marathon, 1/2 Marathon, 10K, 5k walk/run and Canine 5K. Also we added a metric and full century bike distances. The dream is to move to the sand hills once we can race in person again.


Due to the lack of spring endurance events this race will hopefully take the sting off of the Covid cancel. This event is to raise money so enjoy a new challenge. To make this event unique (besides the cool swag) you have no route or cutoff. Pick a distance and do it all at once or take your long weekend time. The only rules are: 1) Your watch or time needs to start and run continuous as soon as you start until you are finished your FULL distance. 2) You must start after Friday the 21st (0001hrs if you want to be first done) and finish before Monday noon on the 24th. 3) To get that finish we need that total time but go ahead and take that break, nap or day off and finish just record it all (charge that watch or phone up if you plan to go long!). So for Example: Start your 50K at 0800hrs and run 20km until 1000hrs then take a nap until 1400hrs then run 30K until 2000hrs. Total time is 12hrs


For this new event we will have custom swag for all runners, walkers and dogs. The swag will be unique and useful such as RFSD Endur Apparel socks (s/m and L/XLG) for humans. Free human swag is limited so order fast.
For socks ordered after May 2nd they make be shipped after the race. We will also have limited custom RFSD bandannas and throw toy swag for the dogs (limited amount but no time limit). Additional swag can be bought of all items until sold out. Swag pickup will be on the 20th (TBD) for in person or shipped out after the race.

Awards for top M/F humans will be handmade pottery mugs from a local artist. Additional awards will be unique and local (TBD).


All profit will be going to go to something very important and close to my heart. This year the money will go to providing a youth in our community a support dog. As an adult with a support dog and a mental health illness I know how important it is. Support dogs for MH are not covered by grants or special funding. Nor is the owner/dog training. My goal is to raise enough to cover that (8-10k). Lana is a trained yellow lab that due to C19 can’t get to her planned US home but will be helping someone in our community instead. Hopefully we will be able to move to an in-person Ultra next year and continue to raise money for support animals in our local community. If we pass our goal we will donate to Wainwright Mental Health.


The distances are dog themed, swag will be dog themed and additional race/dog themed products will be for sale. We will also allow cat lovers to run and join too at no extra cost (smile). For our international racers or outside Alberta we will ship but kindly request you donate min 5$ to help cover the shipping (to max fund raising efforts). All shipped items will be done once the race is over and expect it early June. There will be a simple link to add your time and photo proof for those wanting awards/official finish.

What better way to raise money than to do something we are passionate about together. My hope is we can run or walk our way to this goal.

Time for the dogs to step up and support fellow dogs. Signup your dog (last name list as "The Dog") and get that canine finish. Just remember to bring poop bags. We don't want you to pressure the dogs so we won't have awards for placing but will have something special.
