Our Story
Jonathan Gardner and his family (Team Cookie Monster) are long-time supporters of the Flutie 5k and have been a part of the race for over 10 years. This year, Jonathan is undergoing treatment for cancer and cannot attend the 2021 Flutie 5k. He hopes to be better by spring 2022. To continue Team Cookie Monster's legacy, Mike Palmer (Dougie’s Team Captain and Boston Marathoner) is running on behalf of the Team! Join or donate to this team to stand in solidarity with Jonathan and support him during this time. All of the money raised from Team Cookie Monster will go to the Brockton Arc - Jonathan's way of giving back to the autism community even though he cannot run this year!
Description
Help our team reach our goal for the 2021 Flutie 5k for Autism: Dougie's Epic Adventure, to raise critical funds for the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism to help people and families affected by autism live life to the fullest!
Former NFL Quarterback, Doug Flutie, and his wife Laurie started the Doug Flutie, Jr. Flutie Foundation for Autism in 1998 after their son, Dougie, was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. Their personal experience of raising a son on the autism spectrum inspired them to help others on an equally long and challenging journey. Over its 23-year history, the Flutie Foundation has distributed over $15 million to partner schools and organizations who provide clinical therapies, respite services, recreational programs, social skills training, job supports and more for people and families affected by autism. The Flutie Foundation also provides direct financial support to families through initiatives like education technology tools, adaptive camp scholarships, safety equipment, to provide immediate help where it's needed the most.
