Cole's story
Cole Scattarelli, Swing Back At Cancer tournament Founder, was born and raised in Elk River, MN. Growing up an athlete, Cole played hockey, baseball, football, and golf. After high school, Cole moved to Vermont to play hockey and later returned to Minnesota to play for Hamline University.
In March of 2012, while Cole was attending Graduate School at the College of St. Scholastica, a lump was detected in his throat during a routine doctors visit. Further testing confirmed the worst - Cole had thyroid cancer.
With the support and encouragement of his family, friends, and professors, Cole immediately underwent surgery at the University of Minnesota to remove the cancer. Cole returned to school five days later and was able to finish the semester on time.
After an additional surgery, iodine radiation, and several scans, Cole found out he was cancer-free. Although he felt incredibly relieved, he knew he wanted to do something to help others who were in similar situations.
Cole decided to combine his love of golf with his passion to help others. With the help of his family and friends, it was then that the Swing Back at Cancer Charity Golf Tournament was born.
What started as a small idea to raise a little money has grown into an annual charity golf tournament and silent auction that is sponsored by some of the region's most prominent businesses. In just seven years, Swing Back At Cancer has raised more than $200,000 with 100% of the profit going to the Angel Foundation's Teen Outreach Program.
Having attended several Teen Outreach events to see first hand how the donations are used, Cole and the rest of the Swing Back At Cancer team members feel more motivated and optimistic than ever to grow the tournament.
Cole continues to be cancer-free and is living life the only way he knows how - to the fullest.
