Help Kirsty raise money

For participating in 2021 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon

Join me in making a difference in childhood cancer care.

Every day I see children and youth diagnosed with cancer go through the impossible.  Treatments and side effects push their bodies to the limit.  I am constantly in awe of their strength, courage and resilience.

I have never run a marathon before, and have been told I'm crazy to try.  I am pushing my body to the limit in honour of all the children and youth I have cared for since starting my career in Paediatric Oncology in 2010.   I am running in honour of all those kids and teens who have pushed through and won their battle, and I am running in remembrance of all those who fought so bravely against impossible odds.  They will always have a special place in my heart and are not forgotten.

My goal is to raise $2620 for POGO - a symbol of the 26.2 miles that I hope to accomplish this October.  Please support me in my goal.  If you are donating on behalf or in remembrance of a child or teen, I will add their name to my "official" run shirt! Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month!

Description

I am running in support of the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO) to make a difference in the lives of children with cancer.

Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO) works to ensure that everyone affected by childhood cancer has access to the best care and support. We partner to achieve the best childhood cancer care system for children, youth, their families and survivors in Ontario and beyond. POGO champions childhood cancer care and is the official advisor to Ontario’s Ministry of Health on children’s cancer control and treatment.

Did you know?

- There are over 4,000 families in Ontario with a child in cancer treatment or follow-up care each year

- There are approximately 500 children and youth diagnosed with cancer in a pediatric cancer program in this province each year.

Nearly 20,000 children and youth in Ontario are survivors* of childhood cancer.

Cancer remains the most common cause of disease-related deaths among children in Ontario over the age of 1 year

Funds raised through the Scotiabank Marathon will provide financial assistance to families so they can pay for out-of-pocket costs associated with their child’s treatment; support survivors with customized academic and employment counselling when their disease or its treatment has left them with learning challenges; and fund promising research that examines the impact of childhood cancer and its treatment.

Please consider supporting me as I lace up and raise funds for children, youth, their families and survivors in Ontario and beyond living with cancer.

Thank you.
