My Story…
I joined York's Faculty of Administrative Studies (later to become the Schulich School of Business) in 1972. I continued at York until my retirement in 2014 and have been a YURA member from that time, on.
Over the years I was variously an academic program director, chair of various student-focused committees, and an associate dean. These roles provided a window on student lives and concerns. Being a student has always had its challenges. Financial concerns can play a significant role, now more than ever.
The York University Retirees' Association (YURA) is a volunteer organization whose membership comprises retired York faculty and staff. We have chosen to fund student scholarships as a way of supporting students. Scholarships recognize and support student achievement ... they help put students' hopes and plans within reach. YURA's involvement sends the message that the University's faculty and staff -- even after they have retired -- are still personally committed to students' success and well-being.
I am asking for your support as we raise funds for these scholarships. And I thank you in advance for your consideration.
Description
Please support graduate scholarships at York University by registering to walk or run 5 km in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon on October 17, 2021. One of YURA's major activities is raising funds for graduate scholarships. On the day of the race, our volunteers will walk or run as a group, and then meet for lunch. We will have fun, and at the same time help the student community in an impactful and meaningful way through recruiting sponsors. To learn how to register to walk or run on October 17, 2021 for YURA, please contact Ian Greene at igreene@yorku.ca, or 416-571-8742.
