My Story…
This year, I am once again participating in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon (STWM). This will be the 15th consecutive year that I am doing this event as part of the "charity challenge" in support of the ASO (previously known as the Asperger's Society of Ontario).
My 24-year-old was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome at age 6 (this is an Autism Spectrum Disorder that is now known as ASD Level 1), and since that time ASO has been instrumental in helping us get through many of the most challenging moments we’ve faced. I have made it a mission of mine to give back to this incredible organization by helping to fundraise on its behalf.
Like so many charities however, ASO has been struggling to raise funds and provide services amid the COVID-19 pandemic and is at risk of shutting down. At the same time, community need for ASO’s services has grown significantly since the onset of the pandemic.
As an organization that receives no government funding and relies solely on donations and fundraising efforts like this event to provide services FREE of charge, your donation is needed today more than ever.
This year, I am personally looking to raise $5,000 (or more, if possible). Your donation will help to ensure the organization can continue to provide services to other individuals with ASD and families like ours. Every penny you donate goes directly to the ASO and all donations over $20 receive an official tax receipt.
This is our most important fundraising event of the year, and I am hoping you can help me make a real difference for this small but mighty organization.
Description
Your donation supports ASO - Asperger's Society of Ontario!
ASO is the only non-profit charity organization in Ontario dedicated solely to Asperger's/ASD1, and the only to provide free services and support to everyone in the ASD1 community, including adults.
The Scotiabank Waterfront Toronto Marathon is our biggest fundraiser of the year! Your donation plays an important role in improving awareness of Asperger's/ASD1 and supporting our community across Ontario. Thanks to donors like you, we'll be doing a happy dance across the finish line this October!
