Our story…

Over 42 years of refugee sponsorship at Islington United Church, we have welcomed dozens of families and individuals to Canada to begin new lives in our country. In February 2020, just before the pandemic lockdowns and restrictions began, Islington's Refugee Sponsorship program welcomed and helped to resettle  a young Syrian man. When the pandemic ends, we are looking forward to welcoming two more young men, one from Syria and the other from Somalia as well as a family of six from Iraq.

Interested in changing the lives of others for the better in a direct and compelling way? The “Running and Walking for Refugees Team” at Islington United Church would love to have you join us. For 41 years we have sponsored refugee families and individuals worldwide. Over a 12-month period we provide a safe, secure and welcoming environment including accommodation, furnishings, clothing, food, transportation, medical care, education, employment opportunities and friendship.
