Our story…
1 in 4 people live with mental illness. Many people do not understand the impact that this has on someone's life. Many people live with the illness, not realizing that they are and that there is hope and you CAN get better.
As Team Captain, I live with Schizoaffective Bipolar Disorder, GAD, PTSD-NOS and Dependent Personality Disorder. I have been through therapy, hospitalizations, outpatient programs, a residential stay and ECT treatments, just to give you an idea. While some days are better than others, I could not get through my days without my support, both personally and at NAMI.
Within the past year I have started volunteering more heavily and regularly with NAMI, specifically with the Resource Dept and I love it. It has broken my heart to see how many people truly have no one, and at the same time my heart has been lifted because I (and we at NAMI) can be a source of support for someone going through a hard time. My work as a Peer Counselor reminds me recovery is an ongoing process. This is not only true for my clients, but for me as well.
Please consider donating to this wonderful cause. NAMI does NOT receive government funding and is 100 % supported through donations and grants. Most NAMI programs are available free of charge to its participants. It is not an over statement to say you literally could be saving someone's life. Thank you and let's go Team B-Well!
