My Story…
We will remember!
I have been a Director on the Juno Beach Centre Association Board since 2015, and I am raising funds to preserve the legacy of Canadian Veterans.
Why is it named the Remembrance 21.1K? The total number of troops that landed on Juno Beach on D-Day was approximately 21,000.
We offer a half-marathon (which is 21.1 kilometres long), in honour of those troops.
My father was one of those soldiers.
Gnr Donald H. Foster, 43rd Battery, 12th Field Regiment, 3rd Division.
On June 23rd 1944 my father wrote a letter to my mother while on the battlefields of Normandy, France:
'I hope to be able to tell them [grandchildren] all about my experiences...'
I will be running so that future generations of Canadians will learn what our veterans did for us.
It is important that we remember those who served in WWII and those who continue to serve today.
