We are excited to announce the 3rd annual Loop the Vedder Trail Race is coming Oct 30!
We're optimistic that we will be able to return to a more 'normal race' format in 2021! Although our physically distanced in person 2020 version of Loop the Vedder was a roaring success, it will be bitter sweet if we are able to all be together again! Now that's something to really get excited about! In any event, we expect that a COVID-19 safety plan may need to be in place and we are planning with this in mind. Note that this will be subject to changes and updates according to provincial health regulations.

Get off the road and hit the trails! This scenic course boasts a fast and flat gravel terrain and winding single-track sections. Set along the majestic Vedder River in Chilliwack, BC, this fantastic half marathon loop is set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Chilliwack River Valley and views of the Cascade Mountain Range.
A portion of funds raised will provide direct support for Chilliwack trails and outdoor youth initiatives through the Chilliwack Park Society and local Indigenous communities.

Loop the Vedder - 2021
- Based on BC's Four Step Restart Plan, we are planning for a return to normal in-person racing for the fall. The 2021 race plan does include alternate precautions that will be implemented, only if necessary, based on instructions and guidelines leading up to the day, including all safety precautions and federal, provincial and municipal recommendations as at that time regarding COVID-19.
- The start and finish areas will be monitored and controlled as necessary at the time.
- We anticipate spectators will be permitted. In addition to the start/finish area, please note there are many nodes along the race route for those wishing to cheer on runners. We ask that you please use your discretion as necessary at the time in choosing a spot to view the run.
- The following distance options will be availble:
- 21km Trail Half Marathon
- 10km Trail Run
- 1km kids fun run.
- An official start and finish line area will be set up for each of the two race distances in the field at the base of Vedder Bridge near the start of the Vedder Rotary Loop Trail.
- The race course route will be marked (flagged), but the trail will remain open to the public (as per the City of Chilliwack - a public trail will not be closed for events).
- This will be a timed race course requiring pre-registration and a timing chip. Registered participants will receive an official race time.
- All participant runners will pre-register online and will be asked to select a start time window. PLEASE NOTE: THE STAGGERED START WINDOW IS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE AND WILL ONLY BE USED IF NECESSARY AS GUIDED BY HEALTH REGULATIONS AT THE TIME OF THE RACE. In the event staggered starts are required, there will be three (3) starting windows of thirty (30) minutes each for each distance. The first window will start at 8am for the 21km and 9.30am for the 10km. The race course and timing will officially close at 12.30pm. Please select your starting window accordingly. (We reserve the right to further assign a specific start time if it is determined further precautions are necessary in reducing the number of people in any one area).
- There will be no race-day registration or package pick-up unless pre-arranged. Mandatory package pick up will be at Garrison Running Co. prior to race day. If you are unable to pick up your package in person, pre-arrangements can be made, but no later than 10 days prior to race day.
- There will be no race-day check-in. All registered participants will be directed to the respective start line to activate their timing chip.
- Pre-race communications will provide all instructions and guidelines leading up to the day, including all safety precautions and recommendations as at that time regarding COVID-19.
- Participants will be required to complete a COVID-19 health waiver which will be provided electronically in the week prior to race day. A copy or evidence of completion of same (on your phone etc) will be required to pick up your race package.
- There will be a minimum of one (1) aid station set up for each distance with a minimum of first aid supplies and water. To remain vigilant, best practice would be to treat the run as self supported and bring your own water, nutrition and supplies.
- The full distance of both race courses will be monitored throughout the day by race volunteers.
- If the race is cancelled for any reason prior to October 9, 2021, including but not limited to COVID-19 restrictions or guidelines, all registrations will be automatically deferred to 2022. No registrations will be refunded and no deferrals will be possible after October 9.
- All registered participants will receive a race t-shirt and finisher medal!
For further details and up to date information please refer to the Loop the Vedder race details on our website.
Registration Policy:
Registrations are non-refundable. If the race must be cancelled for any reason, including, but not limited to, reasons related to COVID-19, all registrations will be automatically deferred to 2022. We are planning for a return to 'normal' race format in 2021 assuming the same can be supported by federal, provincial, municipal and health guidelines.
Registration deferral will not be permitted under any other circumstances, but you can transfer your entry to another participant until the close of registration.
You can move down in distance from the Half to 10k until close of registration; you can not move up in distance. If you decide to move down in distance, no credit will be provided for the difference in entry fee.
Thank you for your co-operation and understanding of the registration policy.
Entry fees will have GST (5%) and a Race Roster processing fee added. All fees are in Canadian dollars.
