Steps for Sue
July 18-24, 2021
Join the Odette MBA Society (OMBAS), in honouring Sue Skrobiak, former MBA program secretary and ‘mom’, with a virtual walkathon fundraiser. All MBA alumni, students, colleagues, family, friends, and even those she never met, are invited to come together and make a positive impact just like Sue did for all of us. Steps for Sue will support the Sue Skrobiak MBA Fund and The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County.
#StepsforSue
Using Race Roster, join the event and invite friends, family, and colleagues to donate on your behalf. With this platform, you can encourage your peers to show their support with final donations accepted until noon on July 24th, 2021. From July 18-24, get out and walk, run, bike, move! We encourage you to set your own distance that will challenge you. Connect with other participants by sharing photos of yourself with the hashtag #StepsforSue and great posts may be shared by Odette MBA on social media. We will be awarding a random $10 gift card to one registered participant each day from July 11-July 23. On July 25th, we will announce winners in a variety of categories (Social Media Cheerleader and Most Fundraised) and the total amount fundraiser.
Our goal is to contribute to causes that honour Sue and her legacy:
The Odette School of Business’ Sue Skrobiak MBA Fund supports worthy causes related to the Odette MBA program and its students, with priority given to the refurbishment of the Odette MBA student lounge. This space will be renamed in honour of Sue, in a celebration to take place upon the work’s completion. Additional funds will be directed to appropriate activities and projects such as MBA case competitions, MBA leadership forums, and updates to the main MBA classroom within the Odette School of Business.
The Hospice provides care at no cost in two Hospice Residential Homes, through the Community Palliative Medicine Program and through Wellness Programs and Services. With only partial government funding, through the generous support of the community, Hospice has become the first palliative hospice village in North America. Over time, The Hospice has adapted to meet the needs of the community, and continues to address the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and their families, now and into the future.
Join us to support these two amazing causes! #StepsforSue

Q: Can I get a tax receipt?
A: Yes, you can! For any amount donated above the respective organizations’ tax receipt minimum, you can opt in to receive a tax receipt after the event. The check box to opt-in will appear when making a donation above the minimum. The minimum donation for a tax receipt for The Hospice is $10, and the minimum for the Sue Skrobiak MBA fund is $25. Please note that the initial registration fee of $25 is not eligible for a tax receipt.
Q: Can I still donate without participating in the walkathon?
A: Absolutely. You can contribute to a friend or family member’s fundraising by using the fundraising link they share, or you can donate to either cause directly on the left side of the Race Roster event page. We appreciate any contribution you would like to give!
Q: What does the Sue Skrobiak MBA Fund support?
A: We wish to honour and continue Sue’s rich legacy of service by supporting the program she was so dedicated to.
Donations will be directed to worthy causes related to the Odette MBA Program and its students. For example, priority will be given to the refurbishment of the Odette MBA student lounge. This space will then be renamed in honour of Sue, in a ceremony to take place upon the work’s completion. Any additional funds will be directed thereafter to appropriate activities and projects like MBA case competitions, MBA leadership forums, and updates to the main MBA classroom within the Odette School of Business.
Q: What does The Hospice support?
A: Founded to address compassionate end-of-life care, The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County Inc. has been an integral part of the Windsor Essex region since 1979, and was at one time a service that Sue used. With only partial government funding, it has been through the support of the community that Hospice has become the first palliative hospice village in North America. The Hospice provides care at no cost in two Hospice Residential Homes (Windsor and Erie Shores/Leamington), through the Community Palliative Medicine Program and through Wellness Programs and Services.
Q: Do I have to walk a certain distance?
A: We encourage you to set your own distance that will challenge you. There is no maximum or minimum distance for you to cover. Just get out there and have fun!
Q: How do I track and log my distance?
A: Check out this link for helpful step-by-step instructions: https://support.raceroster.com/hc/en-us/articles/360048543451-How-to-add-an-activity-for-a-Virtual-Challenge Race Roster recommends using the app Runkeeper to track your distance, but any distance tracker is fine!
Q: What is the difference between races?
A: The purpose of the different races is to help you to set a distance goal if you would like to. You can also choose to complete the ‘Set Your Own Distance’ race. As you add distances you complete, you will see yourself moving along a map!
Q: Where did the playlist come from?
A: The playlist is made up of songs and artists selected by Sue’s family to create a list of music that she loved. We hope you enjoy the music that she did, while completing this event in her honour!
Q: Do I have to walk?
A: You can complete any distance any way! Walking, running, biking, skateboarding, paddle boarding, etc; all forms of movement are accepted.
Q: How do I win a prize?
A: We have three different types of prizes with different criteria for each:
Social Media Cheerleader – Get active on social media! For example, share pictures of your walk with us by tagging @odettemba and #StepsforSue on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. The more social media presence we have, the more people will be aware of Steps for Sue! Social Media Cheerleaders will be chosen for their enthusiasm and regularity of posts. The top three Cheerleaders will be announced on July 25th and awarded gift card prizes of $100, $50, and $25, respectively.
Most Fundraised – This one is pretty straightforward, the three participants that fundraise the highest amounts will be announced on July 25th and awarded gift card prizes of $100, $50, and $25, respectively.
Daily draws – All walkathon participants will be entered into a daily draw to win a $10 gift card, and we will be giving out three draw prizes on July 25th as well. In total, that’s 15 random chances to win! Please note that we will redraw in the case of a previous draw winner winning again.
Q: Can I choose what the gift card is for?
A: You can choose between a gift card for Starbucks, Tim Hortons, Amazon, Sephora, or SportChek. The gift card will be sent through email; we will contact you to ask which type of card you would like if you win!
