The First Annual Sierra Vista Hospital Elephant Butte 5k Fun Run/Walk is an education and fundraising event in cooperation with Sierra County Cancer Awareness, and the City of Elephant Butte to raise significant funds and awareness for the breast cancer movement, celebrate breast cancer survivorship and honor that who have lost their battle with the disease.
The event will be run along and proceed the Elephant Butte Day Parade route.
Sierra Vista is a Community-Operated Critical Access hospital purchased September 9, 1997. Providing emergency, clinical, and diagnostic imaging to the people of Sierra County. Originally owned and operated by nuns in the 1940’s. We continue to grow and strive in providing the best care with state-of-the-art imaging equipment, brand-new Emergency room and swing bed units. At Sierra Vista we are more than just health care we are a part of the community, and we work to benefit you. That is why we have decided to put together our First Annual breast cancer awareness fun run to not only bring awareness to breast cancer but to also help those in need of transportation. All donations will be going to Sierra County Cancer Assistance. We hope you can join us in our fight against Breast Cancer.
Sierra Vista radiology department brings you multiple modalities. Such as x-ray, CT, nuclear medicine, pet scans, mammography, Dexa, and ultrasound. With breast cancer awareness we would like to notify our community about the importance of getting your yearly mammogram. Most women have the misconception that breast cancer is more common in those with family history. When in fact 80% of women with no family history is diagnosed with breast cancer, that comes down to 1 out of every 8 women. Here at Sierra Vista, we offer 2D and 3D mammograms giving your doctor the best images. A lot of times mammograms will be correlated with breast ultrasound for those who have dense breast. Please contact your provider and help with the fight against breast cancer.
About our Beneficiary: Sierra County Cancer Assistance
Sierra County Cancer Assistance has been providing free transportation for Sierra County residents for the past 10 years. Including, transportation for chemo, radiation treatments, doctor appointments, and medical testing. They have driven over 800,000 miles and made approximately 5,500 round trips to either Las Cruces, or Albuquerque.
They could not do this without our community’s support. Their fund raisers, private donations, and the best volunteers in the County have been the only things that have kept the, going. They provide Volunteer drivers, if needed, and gas money for these stressful trips, sometimes daily.
The mission of SCCA is to provide, at no cost to the cancer survivor, transportation to and from doctor appointments, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments. All their drivers are volunteers. They are a 50l (c) 3 non-profit organization. Proceeds from our fund-raising events, along with private donations, will give them the funds needed to continue serving cancer patients for years to come. A lot of their patients are Breast Cancer Survivors
