Packet Pick Up Volunteer Opportunities
Packet Pickup at Fremont Presbyterian Church
Join us for the exciting week prior to the Run to Feed the Hungry!
Packet pickup takes place at Fremont Presbyterian Church located at 5770 Carlson Drive, Sacramento CA 95819 (please don't contact Fremont with race related questions).
Volunteers will help with race registration, packet pick up and t-shirt distribution. Please note the following:
- Volunteers for these tasks must be age 16 and up.
- No volunteer orientation required to participate.
- All volunteer tasks require standing and/or walking.
- Light snacks and water are available to volunteers during their shift.
- Volunteers will also receive a short-sleeve Run to Feed the Hungry volunteer t-shirt. Indicate your preferred size on the sign-up form (sizes NOT guaranteed). Please be prepared to wear your volunteer t-shirt when volunteering.
Thanksgiving Day Volunteer Opportunities
Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the 28th annual Run to Feed the Hungry, the largest fundraiser for Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services (SFBFS)!
This fun event takes place on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 25, 2021. Please note the following information:
- You must be age 16 and up to volunteer for this special event.
- You DO NOT need to attend a volunteer orientation in order to volunteer for this event.
- Volunteers arrive between 6:00am and 7:00am (depending on your assignment) and must be available until approximately 11:00am.
- Volunteers must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time. There are no seated tasks available on Thanksgiving Day.
- After completing the volunteer sign-up form, you will receive a confirmation e-mail. You will also receive a reminder e-mail one week prior to the event with final details on parking, attire, arrival time and more.

Available Shifts

Volunteer Check in – 5:45am (6 openings)
Arrive early and help get volunteers checked in! Set up volunteer snacks, collect waivers, pass out t-shirts and direct volunteers to their assignment!
Team Tent (Early Birds) - 5:55am (10 openings)
Volunteers at the Team Tent will welcome all race teams and help with necessary tasks in the morning, including setting up food, taking photos, assisting with check-in, etc. Teams raise additional funds for SFBFS and get red carpet treatment on Thanksgiving morning! After team tasks are complete, this group will assist with the clean-up effort, specifically at the Team Tent area until 9:30am.
Race T-Shirts – 6:00am (25 openings)
Volunteers at the Race T-Shirt tables will find appropriate sizes and pass out t-shirts to participants before the start of the event. This volunteer crew has an arrival time of 6:00am. Sign up now to volunteer to pass out race t-shirts! After all participants have collected their shirts, Race T-Shirt volunteers will assist with the clean-up effort.
Bike Parking – 6:30am (5 openings)
Bike Parking volunteers will assist at the bicycle parking area. Individuals will park their own bikes and volunteers will ensure bikes are secure during the event. Volunteers are needed until the end of the event (around 11:00am). Bike Parking volunteers have an arrival time of 6:30am.
Team Tent - 6:30am (15 openings)
Volunteers at the Team Tent will welcome all race teams and help with necessary tasks in the morning, including setting up food, taking photos, assisting with check-in, etc. Teams raise additional funds for SFBFS and get the red carpet treatment on Thanksgiving morning! After team tasks are complete, this group will assist with the clean-up effort, specifically at the Team Tent area. The Team Tent volunteers have an arrival time of 6:30am and will conclude at 9:00am.
Clean Up Crew – 7:00am (25 openings)
Volunteers on the Clean-up Crew make sure all debris is cleared from the areas surrounding the race. The job may have a less than glamorous title, but it is critical to leave the area cleaner than when the race began so the event may return every year. The Clean-up Crew has an arrival time of 7:00am. This is a great job if you are interested in walking around to see the sights!
Course Monitor – 7:00am (120 openings)
Course Monitors are able-bodied volunteers who keep runners and walkers on course, keep vehicles off course and report emergencies. Your job is essential for a safe and successful race. You and other monitors will spread out over the entire course to monitor turns and intersections. Volunteers must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time. Course monitors are invited to bring a bicycle or scooter to ride out to their stations, which may be up to two miles away form the start line. Course monitors have an arrival time of 7:00am. All volunteers will assist with clean-up after all runners and walkers have passed by their assigned area.
Finish Line – 7:00am (20 openings)
Volunteers at the finish line will spread out to direct runners to the post-race area and keep people moving and prevent bottleneck. Finish line volunteers have an arrival time of 7:00am. All volunteers will assist with clean-up after all runners and walkers have passed by their assigned area.
Start Line – 7:00am (20 openings)
Volunteers on the Start Line team are needed to answer participants’ questions and help with the general flow of people to prevent bottleneck. Start Line volunteers have an arrival time of 7:00am. After all runners and walkers have passed by the starting line line, volunteers will assist with the clean-up effort.
Snack & Water Stations - 7:00am (100 openings)
Volunteers at the Water/Snack Stations will assist by passing out water bottles and snacks to race participants, restocking the bins of water, breaking down cardboard, and disposing of waste. Water/Snack Station volunteers have an arrival time of 7:00am. All volunteers will assist with the clean-up effort after the Water/Snack Stations slow down, usually around 11:00am.
