My Story…
November 11th has always been a day that touches my heart. My brother, Dean, served in the armed forces during the first Golf War. We were definitely blessed that he never saw active duty, but it was close. I remember feeling so very far away from him. I can easily recall the desire to reach out, to wrap my 'little sister' arms around him and protect him, protect us, from the touch of war. I can't imagine what the numerous families who have lost loved ones have felt.
Living with Mental health challenges in my home has also given me a very close and personal experience with how PTSD can impact someone, how it impacts their family and their community. It is a disease that can leave you feeling powerless, helpless, and isolated.
So, on this day, I will work, I will sweat, I will laugh, and I will cry. I will put my body to the test as a way of honouring those who have ensured my freedom and my safety. I wake each day with gratitude for all that these men and women have done for me, for my family, and for our country.
