NEMA’s Race for Sickle Cell Disease
September 24th - October 10th
NEMA understands the devastating impact sickle cell disease (SCD) can have on patients and their families. SCD affects millions of people around the world, including 1 out of 13 African-American babies and 1 out of every 16,300 Hispanic-American babies. As technological and medical advancements help those affected live longer and with fewer crises, we know that patients with this disease will often encounter stigmas when seeking medical attention.
NEMA wants to bring awareness to the disease, break down barriers to seeking care, and support organizations leading the effort to address unique issues facing sickle cell patients and their families. Please join the New England Medical Association as we race to bring more awareness to this devastating disease and support organizations in tearing down barriers to accessing advanced treatments.
NEMA's Race for Sickle Cell Disease Awareness is for all levels of runners and walkers and can be done at your own pace and time. Even more, you can participate solo or with your family and friends through our 5K, 10K or kid fun run. Once completed, don't forget to send your favorite pictures of your race or shoot a quick video to let us know why it is important to you to run to raise awareness of sickle cell disease.
