Glow Up: LightUpMBC Fun Run (or Walk!)
Come raise money for Stage 4 Breast Cancer Research (MBC)! This is an evening event.
We encourage everyone to bring their pink, green, and blue attire!
Why is everything not pink?
Pink is symbolic of early-stage breast cancer but is not inclusive of Stage 4, which led METAvivor to create the tri-color ribbon. Green represents renewal, hope, and immortality; teal symbolizes healing and spirituality and a thin pink-ribbon overlay signifies metastatic cancer that originated in the breast.
The goal of our fun run is to shine a light on the importance of awareness and funding for metastatic breast cancer (MBC) that is often overshadowed and overlooked by most pink breast cancer awareness campaigns.
Metastatic breast cancer, also known as Stage IV breast cancer, occurs when cancer spreads beyond the breast and there is currently no cure. Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer is responsible for 98% of all breast cancer deaths. Yet less than 5% of pink ribbon campaigns' funds actually go towards stage IV breast cancer research. (Pink Ribbon funding tends to go towards early prevention & detection)
The stage IV MBC community is in desperate need of research.
100% of the proceeds will go to #LightUpMBC Illinois which directly benefits METAvivor. 100% of the funds received by #LightUpMBC & METAvivor proudly goes to Metastatic Breast Cancer Research.
We will have available for purchase different light-up accessories and glow sticks in the Metastatic (Stage IV) Breast Cancer Ribbon colors. We will also have glow-in-the-dark paint stations!
Registration 5K cost is $25.00 through September 13th, 2021
Late Registration 5K cost is $30.00 through October 1st, 2021
Online registration closes October 1, 2021, 11:59pm
Registration on the day of the event is $35.00
Registration includes a swag bag w/ a glow-in-the-dark wristband, t-shirt, and promotional items.
To be guaranteed a T-Shirt in your size, you must register by September 12, 2021.
