How To Use the ASICS RunkeeperTM App
IMPORTANT: Using the Runkeeper App is optional. You can use your usual app or device (Strava, Garmin, etc.) to track your effort and simply upload an image of a screenshot showing the distance and time of your run.
However, the ASICS RunkeeperTM App is integrated with Race Roster. If you use Runkeeper to track your virtual run, it will automatically upload your results. Note: If you don't want to carry your phone with you, instructions on how to link your Garmin, Apple, Android or Fitbit workouts to the Runkeeper App can be found here.
Here are the steps to make the Runkeeper App work for you:
- Download and install the ASICS RunkeeperTM App onto your phone.
- Starting with the Virtual Spring Run Off 10 km you will receive an email before each race to let you know that the event is about to start. Open that email on your phone. It will look something like this:
- Scroll that email down until you see a green button that says "Add event to app". Click that button to associate the race with Runkeeper installed on your phone. The button will look like this:
- Clicking the button will open the Runkeeper App. The first thing you will have to do is confirm your identity:
- Click "THIS IS CORRECT" to confirm and you will be taken to a second screen where you will have to select the race. You may have to scroll down to find it. It will look something like this:
- Click the event to get started. It will take you to another screen that will prompt you to
- "TRACK RACE NOW" -- select this option if you are going to carry your phone with you; or
- "LINK RECENT ACTIVITY" -- select this option if you have already recorded your run using Garmin, Apple, Android or Fitbit and have linked it with the Runkeeper App (instruction on how to do that are here):
- If you chose to "LINK RECENT ACTIVITY", follow instructions on the screen and skip to the end -- you are done! If you chose to "TRACK RACE NOW", you will get another screen that will prompt you to start your run:
- Click "Track Race Now" to start timing your virtual participation in the event.
- When you are done, click the pause button and then, on the next screen click the red stop button to finish.
- You will be asked to save the activity. You will notice that, if you run longer than was necessary, Runkeeper will omit the time and distance that exceeds the event distance. In my test I ran (walked, stopped and took pictures -- it was a very nice day) 7.77km, but Runkeeper only used the first 5km.
- Once you have saved, you will get a confirmation screen showing what results have been uploaded and you are done.
