The First Annual Port City Dog Runners Canicross Classic
Join us at Little River Reservoir in Saint John, NB for our fall dryland event!

The Route: The Rez is flat, fast, easy to follow. It is a mix of crushed gravel, grass and has 4 wooden bridges to cross throughout the single 3km loop. There will be no head on passing.
The Area: The race start, participant meeting, and sign-in will all be held in the immediate area of the parking lot, the little river reservoir also has a lake to cool off in and a bark park onsite.
Parking: Parking is available on site.
Race Meetings: Briefings will not be held in-person this year to minimize Covid-19 risk to our volunteers and participants. Briefings will be posted on our Facebook Event for each class type.
COVID Safety Precautions
As a race crew we will:
- Be double vaccinated
- Wear Masks & Physically distance
- Hand Sanitizer and Wipes will be available at check-in tent
- Provide dual start for canicross with 2m between participants
- Provide individual starts for bikejor
As a runner we ask that you:
- Be double vaccinated for participants & spectators/handlers (this will be checked at registration)
- Wear masks when 2m physical distancing is not possible & have a mask (or buff) on you at all times
- Wait for your start time to approach the start area

Race Rules:
All participants are required to be familiar with and abide by the following race rules:

Minimum Age of Dogs for Races:
Note, the following guidelines apply to all classes:
- Dogs 10-12 months of age may race distances up to 2KM
- Dogs 12-15 months of age may race distances up to 6KM
- Dogs 15-18 months of age may race distances up to 10KM
- Dogs must be at least 18 months of age to race distances over 10KM
Gear Requirements
Required Equipment:
Dogs: All dogs MUST be in a harness designed for running and pulling. Please see Rules for Participants for canine age requirements, etc.. Wondering what exactly we mean by a "harness designed for running"? Check out the example below. If your harness doesn't look like this, send us an email with a picture and we'll let you know if it's ok! If you have any other questions regarding gear, please don't hesitate to send us an email!
Canicross: A canicross belt & bungee line are required. The distance from the competitor's abdomen to the base of the tail of the dog must be at most 2 meters, when tight without elongation. However, the recommended distance is 1.70 meters.
Bikejoring: The dog is permanently attached to the bicycle by a bungee line where the distance between the front of the handle bars and the base of the dog's tail is at the maximum of 2.45 meters, when tight without elongation. However, the recommended distance is 2.20 meters. Wearing a helmet is compulsory for the cyclist; the bicycle must be a mountain bike, equipped with mountain bike tires capable of going off road and must have brakes capable of immobilizing the team.
Gear will be checked at start line, however, it is up to the participant to ensure their gear meets the requirements (please see MAHDS Rules for Participants).
