We're baaaaack! Last year, we established this event to enable us and our community partners to better support people hit particularly hard by the pandemic during the holidays. Many were facing tremendous loss: loss of employment, loss of stable housing, not to mention the gut-wrenching loss of loved ones. The need for legal services regarding eviction, wills/estates, probate matters and domestic violence is just as urgent now as it was then. DVLF was created to assist people in such crises and Thanksgiving is a perfect time for the community to come together to help our neighbors in need.
Here's how it works:
Step 1: Register today!
Step 2: Complete a 5K any time during the week of Thanksgiving (Sun. Nov 21 through Sun Nov 28).
Step 3: Click on "View Results" to enter your results and download your completion certificate.
It's virtual, so no matter where you are in the world, you can join us – on your treadmill, on the beach, or at a park. Invite your family, friends, and neighbors. Close the remote working gap and create a team with your colleagues. Have fun with it!
"What about my t-shirt," you say? This year, instead of giving you a t-shirt, we will donate 10% of the event proceeds to two of our community partners who do outstanding work to serve families in need. This year's beneficiaries are:
International Women’s House is a domestic violence shelter with a mission to provide a safe haven and supportive services to women and children who are the victims of family violence, sexual abuse, and human trafficking. IWH focuses on serving immigrant and refugee women and children by providing culturally sensitive services and language access programs. In addition to housing, IWH provides legal advocacy, counseling, skills training courses and benefits navigation to help clients achieve self-sufficiency.
Decatur Cooperative Ministry helps families facing homelessness to settle into safe, stable homes and build healthy lives filled with peace, hope and opportunity. DCM partners with 35 congregations from 14 denominations as well as private foundations, universities and schools, government agencies, community groups, and local businesses to fulfill its mission. The organization’s programs span the entire spectrum of currently recognized homelessness interventions.
That means your participation, and any additional donations you make via this event, will benefit THREE very worthy organizations.
REGISTER TODAY AND SPREAD THE WORD. TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE FOR FAMILIES IN OUR COMMUNITY THIS HOLIDAY SEASON!
