We are excited to be partnering with Merrell.
We share common values and a belief that everyone deserves to enjoy the outdoors!
We are also proud to announce that this event is sanctioned by Athletics Ontario.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR THE 2022 EVENT.
This race is in support of "Hamilton Conservation Authority". Do you want to race for free? Raise $200 or more for the Hamilton Conservation Authority and we will refund your entry fee for any of the solo events. Raise $500 or more and we will refund your entire team's entry fee for the 50k relay race. The participant who raises the most money will also receive free entry into any Happy Trails Racing event.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This year, the "Sticks n' Stones Trail Race" will proudly be part of the OUTRace Series. The 25k finishers will earn points in the Trail Series and the finishers in the 50k race will earn points in both the 50k Series and the Ultra Series. For those of you unfamiliar with the OUTRace Series, there is no registration required. Participants who finish any race in the OUTRace Series will automatically be entered into the series and will earn points.
All race distances will run a beautiful 5k looped course around the lake at Christie Lake Conservation Area. To view a map of the course, click here. The route is rolling, fast, and runnable. The trail surface consists primarily of dirt and is non-technical.

- 5k racers will complete the loop x1 (this course is actually 5.1km)
- 10k racers will complete the loop x2 (this course is actually 10.4km)
- 25k racers will complete the loop x5 (this course is actually 26.5km)
- 50k SOLO racers will complete the loop x10 (this course is actually 53km)
- 50k RELAY racers will complete the loop x10 (you may have up to 5 racers on your team)
For the 50k RELAY - the 5k loop exchange zones will be clearly marked and situated at the start/finish area.
There will be 2 aid stations each loop - One at the start/finish and the other at the 2.5k mark.
The aid stations will have water, electrolyte drinks, pop, fruit, and sweet & salty snacks.
RACE REGISTRATION & KIT PICK-UP:
Race kit pick-up will be held at the Beach Pavilion on-site at Christie Lake Conservation Area:
October 7th from 4:00pm - 8:00pm
October 8th from at 7:30am - race start.
Participants in the 5k, 10k, 25k and 50k RELAY will receive a Stick n' Stones Trail Race toque. SOLO participants in the 50k will receive a Sticks n' Stones Trail Race Hoodie. Hoodies are available for purchase for the 5k, 10k, 25k and 50k RELAY participants at the time of registration for $30. Please ensure you indicate your size if you are acquiring a hoodie. (Please note: hoodie and toque designs are subject to change depending on supplier availability).
Please note: the hoodie and toque shown are from 2019. Our 2021 hoodie will be different.
PARKING:
Show the attendant at the parking gate your registration confirmation (printed out or on your device) to gain free entry into the Conservation Area. Your registration fee includes the parking costs.
RACE START TIMES:
50k solo and relay participants will start at 9:00am.
25k participants will start at 10:00am.
5k & 10k participants will start at 11:00am.
We space out the events this way to reduce the number of people on the course at once and to help ease the congestion at the front gate as well as at race-kit pick-up.
AWARDS:
Finishers of each race will receive a race medal upon completion. Solo finisher prizes will also be awarded to the top 3 male overall and top 3 female overall in each event. Relay awards will be distributed based on entries.
A professional timing event will be there to time your race - all results will be posted after the race.
We will have photographers taking great photos of the racers. We will send an email to you once we have the photos posted to view.
Post Race Food:
We understand that people have different dietary restrictions, needs, and preferences. Because of this, rather than include the cost of a post-race meal that you may or may not enjoy/ be able to eat, we do not include meals in our race registration fees. However, we do our best to provide a food vendor at our races that will offer various selections so that you can choose to purchase food if you wish. If you choose to do so, you will purchase the food directly from them and Happy Trails Racing will not benefit monetarily in any way. We do this to give you the biggest bang for your buck and to try to enhance your experience the best that we can.
Refund Policy:
Happy Trails Racing has a new policy regarding race refunds/transfers: register with confidence knowing that you can take advantage of our early bird pricing and, if you need to back out, you can do so up to 30 days before the race with a 100% race credit that can go towards any future Happy Trails event. It doesn't expire. From 30 days out to 15 days out, you can back out with a 50% race credit. Participants are also welcome to transfer their bib without any penalty up to 15 days before the race. Please keep in mind that everything we need to order to have you at our race is done so at least 30 days out.
Fundraising:
This event is being held in memory of the Race Director's cousin, Michael Bennardo, who died at the age of 38 on September 20, 2018. Michael was just about to complete medical school and had a promising future ahead where he would work towards his goal of helping as many people as possible. Michael absolutely loved the ocean and was certainly drawn to it throughout his life. We are very happy to be supporting Oceana Canada in Michael's memory and would truly appreciate any funds that you could donate towards this great cause.
Please feel free to contact us regarding any questions or concerns.
