Prepare yourself for the 40th Annual Alcatraz XL “Escape from the Rock” Duathlon. The course combines the original swim from Alcatraz with a 7 Mile Run to Fort Point and back to Aquatic Park. You have heard the stories, you’ve seen the movies, you know the infamous inmates, but NOW it’s your turn to make history on the ESCAPE course! As tourists ferry to the island, you’ll be swimming away making the ULTIMATE ESCAPE! The event is limited, so don’t wait to register!

Course Map
DISTANCE: Swim 1.5 Miles, Run 7 Miles
COURSE CUT-OFF TIME: 3.5 HOURS (The swim must be completed within 75 minutes).

WATER TEMP: ~58-62° F
AID STATIONS: There will be aid stations at miles 2 and 5. Aid will also be available in the transition area.
INCENTIVES: T-shirts for all participants. Finisher medals for all participants (duathletes, relay & swim-only). Personalized award plaques to the top duathlon finisher in the male and female categories. In addition, award plaques to the first place relay team in each division (male, female, co-ed),
RACE PACKETS: (containing swim cap, run bib number, timing chip, & t-shirt) are picked up on race day morning in the Senior Center which is located on the first floor of the Maritime Museum. Full details on this pick-up will be e-mailed to all paid participants and posted on this web page a week or two prior to race day. If you did not submit a valid e-mail address when registering for this event, please notify us at info@envirosports.com.
PARKING: Parking is sparse in the Aquatic Park area. We recommend that athletes park at the Ft. Mason lot ($10 all day), the entrance is located at the intersection at Marina Blvd. and Buchanan St.. Just walk along one of the footpaths through Ft. Mason and over the hill to Aquatic Park. (Click here for a map of Fort Mason Parking location.)

CANCELLATIONS: Registrations are non-refundable, unless you purchased the opt-in refund protection during check-out, in which case you can file a claim online here. If you did not purchase the refund protection and you can no longer participate in this event, you may receive a rollover credit (minus a $40 processing fee) toward a future event as long as you let us know by July 20 2022. After that date, a doctor's note is required to receive a credit.
HEADPHONES POLICY: Headphones (or any other audio device, swimp3 players, etc.) are NOT allowed during either leg of this event.

| SPORTS BASEMENT (Northern California events) rents wetsuits. They do not recommend using the wetsuit in chlorinated water. Wetsuit rentals are available at all of their store locations. Check their website for fees and sometimes rental fees can even be applied towards the purchase of a new wetsuit within 90 days of your first rental of the current season.
