My Story…
In September of 2019 at 18 years old, I had to go through some genetic testing. Those tests found that I have a rare genetic condition called PTEN Hamartoma Tumor Syndrome (PHTS). PHTS predisposes me to certain cancers and later that month my doctors found a large cancerous tumor on the right side of my thyroid gland. Fortunately, the tumor was detected early and was surgically removed before it could spread to other parts of my body. The whole process of testing and surgery was very straining both mentally and physically and still has me living with the fear of having to go through something like that again. That is why I am fundraising for Young Adult Survivors United.
Young Adult Survivors United is a community that young adult cancer patients and survivors can go to for support socially, emotionally, and financially. My goal with this fundraiser is to help them continue to help other young adult cancer patients and survivors deal with whatever it is they are going through, whether it be treatment or dealing with anxiety and depression after cancer.
