We are a group of runners raising money for pancreatic cancer research at The Ottawa Hospital - while training for Ottawa Race Weekend on May 28 and 29, 2023. 

I am Sindy Hooper, the team captain, now living with metastatic stage IV pancreatic cancer. 

I was diagnosed with PC (adenocarcinoma) Jan 2, 2013. I was fortunate to be a candidate and receive Whipple surgery + chemotherapy and radiation. 

8 years and 8 months later, in September 2021 I had a PC metastasis to my lung, thankfully a potentially curative surgery to remove it, and 3 rounds of Folfirinox chemotherapy. 

Last week, 9 years and 9 months after PC diagnosis, we received the devastating news that I have three more PC mets; in my L lung pleura, in my L lung and on T5 vertebra. This time there is no potential curative surgery. I'll be starting palliative radiation and chemotherapy next week to try and stop the tumours from growing. Realistically and hopefully I'll get another year to love this beautiful life. 

Now, more than ever, I live each day with gratitude and make every moment count. What helps keep me going is the tremendous amount of passionate and caring support I've received over the last 9+ years from my family, friends and community. 

Being a cancer survivor all these years has taught me that this fight is not all about me .... it's about giving back, inspiring hope for other PC survivors, raising awareness and generating more funding for cancer research ...... being part of a movement that will ultimately help find a cure or (at the very least) effective treatments for those of us with pancreatic cancer. 

I am asking for your help to take a moment and give from your heart to help find better treatments for pancreatic cancer, to give people hope of surviving this devastating cancer. Every dollar that you give ensures that researchers at The Ottawa Hospital can continue working to improve outcomes for pancreatic cancer patients and their families.
