Hey friends! Ryan and I are running the Twin Cities 10-miler with the Rare Disease Renegade team. Our goal is to raise funds for often neglected diseases- otherwise known as orphan diseases. We have two rare disease renegades in our family: our daughter Maija and our nephew James.
Maija was finally diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome after enduring severe knee and joint pain. She had to step away from dance, her passion, due to the chronic pain. Learn more about EDS at www.ehlers-danlos.com
James has been living almost his whole life with symptoms of Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis. His body produces excess immune (white blood) cells which cause harm instead of help. Learn more at https://www.stjude.org/disease/langerhans-cell-histiocytosis.html
For both Maija and James the path to find a diagnosis was long and frustrating due to the rarity of the diseases. Research for each disease is not well funded.
