Our story…

Will you help Children First Canada go the distance for 8 million kids?

Your donation will go towards programs that will measurably improve the health and wellbeing of kids - especially the most vulnerable.

As Canada rebuilds from the COVID-19 pandemic, there is an urgent and compelling need to make big, bold investments in Canada’s most valuable natural resource: children and youth.

Canadians are proud to live in one of the most prosperous and advanced nations in the world, but when it comes to the wellbeing of our children, we have reason to be concerned. Over the past decade, Canada has fallen sharply from 10th to 30th place amongst OECD countries for the wellbeing of children, and the pandemic has made a bad situation much worse.

The kids are not alright: one-third do not enjoy a safe and healthy childhood, one-third of Canadians report experiencing abuse before the age of 15, nearly one in five kids lives in poverty, and suicide is a leading cause of death for children aged 10 to 14 in Canada.

The pandemic has accelerated and amplified the top threats to children’s survival and development and resulted in widespread learning loss, including essential skills like literacy and numeracy. If we disaggregate the data by race, gender, geography, and physical ability, it’s even more disturbing.

Kids represent nearly a quarter of our population and one hundred percent of our future.

With your support, we can make Canada the best place in the world for kids to grow up!

Description

Children First Canada is committed to: Raising awareness: We are publishing groundbreaking research on the state of kids in Canada and sharing the information with Canadians and with the government through high profile events and through the media. Empowering children: We are listening to kids and building their knowledge and skills to advocate for themselves. Developing policy solutions: We are using the best evidence available to develop practical policies and make it as easy as possible for the government to act. Building political and social will: We are meeting with policy makers and helping them to act in the best interests of children. We are rallying children’s organizations as well as the private sector to work together. And we will be generating media buzz to get Canadians talking about what matters to kids. Taking action: We will celebrate what’s working for kids and challenge what isn’t, and create a sense of urgency to make change happen.
