Come and get your whopping!
Do you have it in you to receive a Wonderfully Wicked Woolastook Whopping? Are you ready to face your competitors in a challenge that can last up to 12 hours? Then read on!
For the third year a 12 hour Last Person Standing trail running event will be held in Woolastook Park off Route 102 along the Kelly Creek on June 25, 2022.
How does this event even work?
At 6:30AM you are welcome to drive your car up the hill to the race-site where a volunteer will guide you where to park. After parking you can setup a pop-up tent/tent/deck-chairs/coolers/whatever on the grass beside your car. Race kit pick up will open at 7:00AM and will close at 7:50AM to make sure everyone is at the start line for the race-director's intro speech.
At 8AM sharp the horn goes off and all runners have exactly one hour to complete the loop on the trails of wonderful Woolastook Park and to be back at the start line, because at 9AM the horn goes off for loop number two. This loop is in the opposite direction! The course will be similar as previous years; one loop will be about 6 kilometer long and will have around 150 meters of elevation, depending on your watch.
For the first 4 hours about halfway along the course, there is a checkpoint where volunteers will make sure you will go in the right direction so that we won't be missing anyone during or after the event.
The trails are a mixture of gravel and technical single and double track.
This will go on for 11 hours. The 12th and last hour will be a race in its normal sense of the word; in other words: you have to beat your opponents to the finish line.
But, you may not care about winning and just like participating: everyone is a hero! So just keep on running till you can't move your legs anymore. For those running more than 7 loops, you will be able to finish your (first?) ultra-marathon!
We encourage you to hang out and enjoy the trail running community, eat food, drink a beer, jump in the river, whatever.
Food & drink
In between the laps you can eat and drink from what we have on offer for you (fruit, snacks, lots of other good food, water, coke). Of course you can bring whatever else you need for during and after the race.
Cup-less
In order to leave just footprints and nothing else we do not provide cups for water, so you have to bring your own cup, bottle, bladder etc.
When nature calls
We have some fine washrooms for you to fill to your heart's desire! You will find them close to the start/finish area.
First Aid
We value safety and therefore we have a crew from Canadian Ski Patrol on site for any first aid needs you might have.
Additional Information
There will be no refunds or deferrals. A short transfer period will open as soon as the race is sold out. If it sells out, that is.
There is no waiting list once sold out.
There will be no race day registrations; all registrations will have to be done on-line through Race Roster. On-line registration closes June 23 around noon.
By registering you automatically sign a waiver basically saying you know the risks of the event and are responsible for your own health and decisions.
Although we absolutely love your pooches and we are certain they are well-mannered, dogs are not allowed to participate.
Strollers are also not allowed due to insurance reasons, but you would have a hard time anyways on these trails.
There will be garbage and recycling bags at the start/finish area, so please don't leave any garbage behind in the park.
The park is open to the public, so bear in mind that you can encounter humans.
Accommodations
If you are coming from a little further away and would prefer to stay overnight, there is a possibility to camp at the Mactaquac Provincial Park campground (Mactaquac campground reservation) or a new campground 5 minutes away, the River Run Resort and Grill (River Run Resort & Grill) or pick any of the hotels in Fredericton.
