My Story…
I started Dragon Boating several years ago - I wanted to do something in the city, on the water, and it had to be an activity that I would commit to because teammates would be counting on me to show up, even if I didn't feel like it!
I got so much more - I got friendship, community, and a rediscovered pleasure in physical activity and a waking drive to 'push' myself to accomplish goals.
I started with a great crew and captain on a Recreational boat, eventually paddled on a competitive Women's Senior C (over 60) Crew. We competed at Nationals in 2019, qualified for World Club Crew in France in 2020, and then came the Pandemic! Like many others, my priorities in life and work shifted and it was time to restore balance.
I am thrilled to be on a new crew, with old and new friends. I am also very excited to return to fundraising for the Ottawa Dragon Boat Foundation! ODBF supports lots of local charities. This year's recipients are Cornerstone Housing for Women, Shelter Movers Ottawa, and Ottawa Anglican Day Programs. ODBF has raised funds for 58 different local charities.
