FYIs for the Yeti Trail Half:
-Online sign ups close on Friday, February 25th at 7:00 am link here: https://raceroster.com/events/2022/54625/yeti-trail-half There will be race day sign ups beginning at 7:15 am. Race day fee is $70 cash, Venmo or check please have exact change if possible.
-The race occurs at Bluhm County Park the address is 3855 S 1100 W, Westville, IN 46391
-Our friends at Tempo Run Timing will be chip timing the race. Please check out them out at https://www.temporuntiming.com/ Results will be posted on their website.
-We are central time same Chicago so please keep that in mind for those on Eastern Time Zone. Start time is 8:00 am and packet pick-up begins at 7:15 am. You are welcome to come to the park earlier than that I will be there at 4:30 am getting the last-minute course details done.
-We will be a Grove Shelter that is only shelter located in the park and it is outdoor. We will be using the Multi-use trails west of the shelter.
-I was on the course on Tuesday and Wednesday to begin the marking. Currently the course is frozen with no snow. Unfortunately they are predicting another 4 inches of snow tonight and Friday morning.
-Temperatures will be in 30’s for race day. The course is going to be sloppy, wet, snowy, icy and muddy. Listen, you will not achieve a trail half PR in this race. Just have fun and enjoy the outdoors. I highly recommended Yak Tracks or Ice Spikes or trail shoes with aggressive sole pattern to improve traction as it will be muddy, snowy and wet. If you interested in using Ice Spikes, I have some extra ones I can bring to the race. If you are not familiar with the product check out their website https://www.icespike.com/
-Course is 3 loops around the park and each loop does contain about ½ mile of pavement. Most of the course is single track dirt trails with switchbacks and tree roots. Please beware there are trees down on the trail and tree roots under the snow please be cautious. I advise you to take it easy the first loop as the trail will be more defined as the race goes on. The course would be marked with flags, arrow signs and survey tape on trees. PLEASE follow the markings NOT the runner in front of you.
-I know the Strava states it is 14.3 or so miles I used my Garmin 310 XT to measure with the switchbacks my watch tends to measure long. Last year many runners got between 13.2-13.5 miles using their GPS watches.
-One aid station will be provided at the shelter with water, Gatorade, Honey Stinger Chews, gels and other pre-package snacks. You will pass your cars and bathrooms each loop so if there is certain aid you need you can get it then. There is no aid on the course.
-No awards ceremony if you win overall you will receive metal Yeti Xing plaque and $25 gift card. Top three in each age group will be able to choose an item from out prize table
