In September, Pippa, Zoey, Audrey and I will be participating in the 2022 Constantine Yorkville 5k Run to raise funds for the Assaulted Women's Helpline. Pippa has been on the board of the AWHL for more than 7 years. The AWHL is important to me because they ensure that all women across Ontario who are experiencing abuse have someone to turn to. Violence against women is a serious and widespread issue in Canada. According to Statistics Canada, more than 50% of Canadian women over the age of 16 have been victims of violence. In Ontario, almost every week a woman dies at the hands of her partner. For over 30 years, the Assaulted Women’s Helpline has operated a free, anonymous and confidential 24 hour telephone and TTY crisis line for women who have experienced abuse. They provide crisis counselling, emotional support, safety planning, information and referrals in up to 200 languages. Your support today can go a long way to help women in crisis.
